Ciledug Archives Organises Local History Preservation
FAH Online News - The Ciledug Archives Community, an association that focuses on local history, successfully held an event entitled "Jejak Ciledug Tempo Doeloe, Exploring and Nurturing Ciledug's Historical Memory as Part of Local Identity" on Saturday, 6 September 2025. Satria Tamami, one of the history education activists and Chairman of the Ciledug Archives Community, who is also an alumnus of the Department of History and Islamic Civilisation, Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, was the initiator of this event. Taking place at the Bhayangkara Meeting Hall, Ciledug Police Dormitory, this event aims to invite the public to retrace and preserve the historical heritage of Ciledug, which is often forgotten in the midst of its development as a buffer city for Jakarta. This activity is also a breakthrough to introduce the history of Ciledug more closely to the community, making it part of the identity that must be maintained.
The main activity in this event was an interactive talk show that presented a number of renowned historical experts. The speakers were Prof. Dr Zeffry Alkatiri, S.S., M.Hum. (Professor of History at the University of Indonesia), Rico Fajrian, S.S. (Cultural Preservation Centre Region 8), Satria Tamami, S.Hum. (Head of the Ciledug Archives Community), and Harry Farinuddin, M.Hum. (History academic). They explained the various phases of Ciledug's historical journey, from its role as a plantation area in the colonial era to the modern commercial centre it is today. In addition to the discussion, the event also featured a mini gallery exhibiting the historical archives of the Great Mosque of Al-Ikhlas Ciledug, providing a real visual picture to the participants.
Chairperson of the Ciledug Archives Community, Satria Tamami, explained that the event was a strategic collaboration with the Cultural Preservation Agency (BPK) Region VIII of Banten Province and the Jakarta Department of Culture (DK) through the Cultural Advancement Facilitation (FPK) programme. Support from various parties, including the Ciledug Police Dormitory, was key to the success of this event. Satria hopes that this talk show can be the first step to support the historical preservation programme and promote local culture. "This event can be an asset for the future, where Ciledug has great potential to be developed as a historical tourism centre that can increase the attractiveness of Tangerang City," he explained.
In addition to the scientific discussion, visitors were also treated to a performance of the Blantek Mask Theatre from the Fajar Ibnu Sena Studio. This traditional art performance is a special attraction, considering that Topeng Blantek is rarely found and exposed in the community. According to Satria, this performance was deliberately displayed because it is considered unique and may be the first time in Ciledug. Satria also expressed his admiration for the performance, which enlivened the atmosphere and enriched the experience of the participants.
Enny, a Betawi female figure in Tangerang, also appreciated the event. She salutes the committee, which consists of young people who care about history. For her, this event proves that history is not just a fairy tale, but must be supported by primary data in the form of sites and texts. "History is different from fairy tales or myths. This event is good because it has scientific data," he said. Similarly, Harry Farinuddin, who is also a beneficiary of the FPK programme, expressed his gratitude for the support of the Region 8 Cultural Preservation Centre that made this event possible.
The "Jejak Ciledug Tempo Doeloe" event is not just a meeting of history activists, but also a real effort to build collective awareness about the importance of maintaining local identity. The Ciledug Archives community is committed to continue organising similar activities in the future, such as historical tours, archive exhibitions, and book publications. The hope is that the younger generation will not lose track of their own history, and Ciledug can be recognised not only as a buffer zone for the capital city, but also as a region rich in historical and cultural values.
