In his direction, the Dean of FAH emphasised the importance of the active role of all lecturers in supporting the existence of KEP. "This activity is very important, I hope all lecturers will actively participate and follow up on the results. The Research Ethics Committee will be very helpful in improving research competence in the Adab and Humanities environment," said the Dean.
Prof Bambang as the main speaker explained that KEP was formed based on the Rector's Decree No. 18 of 2025 after benchmarking at Padjadjaran University (UNPAD). This committee was formed to ensure the protection of informants, maintain research ethical standards, as well as answer the demands of scientific journals that require ethical clearance in the publication process.
In its implementation, KEP FAH divides the research focus into three clusters, namely: Islam, Social and Humanities.
This socialisation also aims to recruit KEP reviewers in each cluster. The reviewers have important tasks, including: reviewing research protocols, assessing the level of research risk (low, medium, high), ensuring the completeness of ethical documents, providing recommendations for improvement, maintaining data confidentiality, and acting as ethical educators.
Prof Bambang emphasised that the submission of ethical permits must be done before the research begins. The proposal is submitted in the form of a research summary through an online system that has been equipped with SOPs and official templates. All research involving humans or animals must go through KEP, including manuscript-based research or in-depth interviews.
To maintain service quality, a minimum reviewer ratio of 1 lecturer: 50 students, with the condition that students are already in semester 7 and above. After obtaining the Rector's Decree, the reviewers will also be provided with training to equalise perceptions in carrying out their duties.
Supervisors are expected to direct students to access this KEP service, not only as a publication requirement, but also as a form of academic responsibility in maintaining the confidentiality of informants. "This ethics committee should not be an obstacle to students graduating on time. Reviewers are there to ensure the process runs smoothly, with quality, and according to ethical rules," said Prof Bambang.
With the existence of KEP, FAH UIN Jakarta further strengthens its position as a pioneer in the implementation of research ethical standards in the PTKIN environment.
