World Translation Day Seminar: Building Innovation in Translation
Theater FAH. The Tarjamah Study Program Student Association (HMPS) held an International Translation Day seminar, in commemoration of World Translation Day 2024. The event entitled “Utilization of Technology in Translation” took place in Abdul Ghani theater room, Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, from 09.00 to 12.00 WIB, and was attended by students of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta from various departments, Head of Tarjamah Study Program, Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Cooperation, and several other academicians.
The event began with the opening by the MC, followed by the recitation of the holy verses of the Qur'an and singing the Indonesia Raya song and UIN Hymn. Tarjamah students batch 2023 also presented Saman dance as a form of participation in this event. After that, various speeches were delivered, including by the chief executive, chairman of HMPS Tarjamah, head of study program, and Vice Dean of Student Affairs and Cooperation of Faculty of Adab and Humanities.
Prof. Usep Abdul Matin, M.A., M.A., Ph.D., emphasized the importance of translation, stating, “This World Translation Day is a reminder of the importance of knowledge-based information.” He also emphasized that the faculty will work with the translation industry to help Tarjamah students enter the workforce.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Darsita S, M.Hum., Head of Tarjamah Study Program, said, “September 30 is a very special day for translators around the world. It reminds us of the crucial role of translation in building cultural bridges.”
The event continued with the presentation of material by Enggar Wahana Putra, S.Sos., from the Interpreter Development Center of the Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat. The material presented included the legal basis of the functional position of translator, the scope and strategic role of government translators, and the utilization of technology in translation. The session was interactive with discussions involving many questions from students.
The seminar was closed with the submission of certificates, group photos, and ribbon cutting by the head of the study program as a symbol of the inauguration of the International Translation Day commemoration activities.
The hope of this event is to raise awareness of the important role of translators in a global society. In addition, it is hoped that this seminar can motivate students to continue to explore knowledge and contribute to the world of translation, as well as establish closer cooperation between academics and practitioners in this field.
