Workshop on Review and Improvement of 2020 Curriculum for Library Science Study Program, Faculty of Adab and Humanities UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Towards OBE Curriculum

Library Science Study Program, Faculty of Adab and Humanities, State Islamic University (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, held a workshop to review and improve the 2020 Curriculum towards Outcome Based Education (OBE) Curriculum. The event took place on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 09.00 WIB.

This workshop presented Dr. Laksmi, SS, MA, lecturer and OBE Curriculum compiler at the Department of Library Science, University of Indonesia, as a resource person. The event was attended by 19 participants consisting of the Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs, Head of the Library Science Study Program, Library Science Study Program lecturers, and IPI Study Program students.

In his speech, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, M.Hum emphasized the importance of having a new curriculum by 2025 and the need for the role of one or two people to summarize the curriculum process. “We as teachers and educators of prospective librarians must be related to technology and cannot let go of integration with Islam,” he said.

Dr. Laksmi, in her presentation, explained the strategy of preparing the OBE curriculum. She emphasized that OBE is an educational process that focuses on achieving certain concrete results that have been determined, related to Graduate Learning Outcomes (LLO) and Course Learning Outcomes (CP MK).

“The importance of OBE is related to the Main Performance Indicators (KPIs), one of the requirements for international accreditation, industry 4.0, and the challenges of the world of work,” said Dr. Laksmi. She also added that there are four OBE principles, namely Clarity of Focus, Designing Down, High Expectation, and Expanded Opportunities.

In the discussion session, the participants actively asked and discussed various aspects of OBE and its implementation. Mrs. Siti Maryam, one of the participants, asked about how to provide SLOs to students with disabilities and how OBE is integrated with Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM). Meanwhile, Mr. Pungki highlighted the relevance of MBKM to the OBE curriculum and how to give quizzes to students.

At the end of the workshop, it was discussed about the importance of having a clear graduate profile that is tailored to the needs of the industry and the challenges of the current world of work. Dr. Laksmi suggested that S1 Library Science graduates should be able to become researchers, consultants, or managers of information institutions. She also emphasized the importance of revising personal skills according to industry 4.0 references.
