Jakarta, FAH Online News — The Library Science Student Association (HMPS) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta successfully held the inaugural edition of its collaborative flagship program, JIPLENS: Exploring Modern Collection Management and Visitor Experience Strategy at Galeri Indonesia Kaya for Cultural Heritage Sustainability, on Sunday, July 12, 2026. Designed as an agency visit, the program's first destination was Galeri Indonesia Kaya (GIK), a public art and cultural space featuring interactive digital technology under the auspices of the Bakti Budaya Djarum Foundation.

JIPLENS is an innovative initiative established through the collaboration of three departments within the Library Science Student Association: the Department of Public Relations, the Department of Communication and Information (Kominfo), and the Department of Research and Development (Litbang). The program is specifically designed to encourage students to step beyond the conventional classroom environment and gain firsthand insights into best practices in cultural heritage management within professional settings.

In line with its objectives, JIPLENS focuses on the GLAM sector (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums), which closely aligns with the discipline of Library and Information Science, particularly in the areas of knowledge management, cultural preservation, and the modern presentation of information and collections to the public. The launch of the first JIPLENS series at Galeri Indonesia Kaya marks the beginning of an exploration program that will continue through visits to leading cultural and information institutions.

Carrying the theme "Exploring Modern Collection Management and Visitor Experience Strategy at Galeri Indonesia Kaya for Cultural Heritage Sustainability," the event officially commenced at 1:30 p.m. (WIB) and received a warm welcome from the management of Galeri Indonesia Kaya. The main session featured an interactive discussion and an in-depth interview with Syafiq, the supervisor of GIK's interactive display area.

During the discussion, the students explored various aspects of GIK's strategy in presenting Indonesia's rich traditional arts and cultural heritage through modern interactive media while preserving its authenticity. The GIK team also explained the technological approaches employed to enhance visitor experiences, enabling audiences of all ages and backgrounds to engage dynamically with Indonesia's cultural heritage. In addition, the students took the opportunity to learn about recruitment procedures, qualifications, internship opportunities, and career prospects available for Library Science students interested in pursuing careers in the creative and cultural heritage industries.

Following the insightful interview and discussion session, the program continued at GIK's performance stage, where the participants enjoyed a theatrical performance entitled "Si Kendhil," presented by the talented young performers of Peqho Kids Acting Class.

Through this traditional Indonesian folktale, rich in moral lessons and local wisdom, participants witnessed firsthand how public cultural spaces such as Galeri Indonesia Kaya serve not only as inclusive centers for cultural education but also as platforms for nurturing artistic talent among younger generations.

To conclude the visit, participants were invited to experience GIK's interactive digital displays and immersive exhibition spaces, where the implementation of information technology and user experience design could be observed directly. Students explored various visitor engagement features, including an interactive activity that allowed each participant to create a personalized digital avatar similar to those found in video games. These customized characters were then projected onto a massive immersive screen, where they interacted in real time with avatars created by other visitors.

Although conducted in a relaxed and exploratory atmosphere without formal ceremonial protocols such as certificate presentations, the first episode of the JIPLENS Agency Visit proved to be an invaluable learning experience. Beyond gaining practical insights into the integration of Library and Information Science with the creative cultural industry, participants also broadened their understanding of the diverse career opportunities available within the GLAM sector.
