The Strings of Memories
South Tangerang Online News FAH– Students of the English Literature Study Program at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta showcased their creativity and literary enthusiasm through the launch of The Strings of Memories, a collaborative book born from a Creative Writing course. The project was guided and edited by lecturer Ida Rosida, M.Hum., who worked alongside 11 talented students of the program: Putri Anggraini, Fitrah Audi, Ameylia Putri Hariyanto, Ardan Abimanyu, Maharany Asmara Darma, Mohamad Bintang Sulistyo, Muhammad Rizki Pratama, Novi Supriani, Syakara Febina, Zaky Hidayat, and Zahra Safira.
This anthology book serves as a stage for students to present their writings on the theme of memories filled with emotion and reflection. The publication of the book went through a long process, culminating in the issuance of its ISBN on March 21, 2025, which officially marked its release. The Strings of Memories contains a variety of stories told from diverse student perspectives, exploring themes of remembrance, trauma, and how we confront the past.
This book is written in English to reflect the students’ academic background in English literature. It invites readers to understand that behind every person lies a story often painful that shapes who they are today. The Strings of Memories becomes a collective reflection on memories and life itself. Through honest and touching writings, the authors aim to show that memories, even painful ones, hold meaning and can be a source of strength. They encourage us to be more empathetic, less quick to judge others, and to learn to see the world from different perspectives.
One powerful line featured in the book reads, “Put your shoes in my shoes.” It means imagining oneself in another person’s position before passing judgment. With empathy and understanding, we can build warmer, more supportive relationships. This book is not merely a collection of stories it’s a reminder that we all face our own battles, and we are not alone.
“English Literature students possess outstanding potential in creative writing. This can open up opportunities for them to step into the creative industry, such as becoming copywriters and other professions that require writing skills. Keep developing yourself. Strive for both academic and non-academic achievements. Cultivate the skills needed to compete in the global arena. Use your time effectively and do your best in life.” A message from the lecturer
This activity stands as proof that students are not only studying literary theory but also capable of creating works that speak deeply to readers. It is hoped that this publication will inspire future generations to continue writing and creating.
