Strengthening Interpreter Profiles: Tarjamah Study Program Invites Visiting Lecturers at the University of Indonesia
FAH Online News, Tarjamah Study Program, FAH UIN Jakarta is holding a Guest Lecture with the theme "Declaration: Multifaceted Profession" through a Zoom Meeting on Monday, November 24 2025. This activity was attended by three classes of 7th semester students and was also attended by the teaching lecturer, Dr. Mauidlotun Nisa’, M.Hum. This activity also brought Dr. Doni Jaya, M.Hum, lecturer at the Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, University of Indonesia as a resource person.
In his presentation, Dr. Doni Jaya explains the four main types of interpreters along with their respective characteristics. He emphasized that the interpreter profession demands multifaceted abilities, including language agility, mental resilience, context understanding, and technical readiness. Apart from that, he also discussed the concept of rate cards and how interpreter work rates are usually determined in the professional world.
The discussion session was active. Many students ask questions about the practice of interpreting, starting from how to determine the rate card, the possibility of AI replacing the role of a human interpreter, the need for certification to work as an interpreter, to how to deal with sensitive issues in the interpretation process. Resource persons provided comprehensive answers while providing concrete examples of their professional experience.
Through this guest lecture, it is hoped that the activity can broaden students' insight into the world of interpreting, as well as motivate them to continue to develop their competencies to face the increasingly dynamic demands of the interpreter profession.
