Strengthening Information Literacy and Research Skills, English Literature Students of UIN Jakarta Visit the Library of the Indonesian House of Representatives
Jakarta, FAH Online News – The English Literature Study Program of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, held an academic visit to the Library of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. The activity, attended by 72 students, aimed to strengthen information literacy and enhance students’ understanding of the use of credible information sources to support academic and research activities.
The activity, held at the DPR RI Library, was attended by the Head of the DPR RI Library Division, Murni Elok Pertiwi, S.E., M.A.B.; Associate Expert Librarians Tenny Rosanti, S.Sos., M.Si., Desti Ariesti Rohim, S.Sos., and Magfira, S.IP., M.A.P.; Junior Expert Librarian Ridwan Faridan, S.Sos., M.Hum.; First Expert Librarian Septiani Puji Rahayu, S.Hum.; and lecturer of the English Literature Study Program at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Arief Rahman Hakim, M.Hum.
The series of activities began with an opening session and the singing of the Indonesian national anthem, Indonesia Raya. It continued with remarks from the Head of the DPR RI Library Division and the accompanying lecturer from the English Literature Study Program. The program then proceeded with a presentation on the services of the DPR RI Library, an introduction to the DPR E-Library, account registration for students, a question-and-answer session, the exchange of souvenirs, and a building tour of the museum and library.
In his remarks, Arief Rahman Hakim, M.Hum., lecturer of the English Literature Study Program at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, emphasized the importance of information literacy skills in supporting students’ research activities. As the lecturer of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Literacy course, he encouraged students to utilize various credible sources of information and optimize library services as a means of supporting the research process. According to him, the ability to search for, select, and use information appropriately is an essential foundation for students in producing high-quality academic work.
This visit served as an opportunity for students to gain a closer understanding of the role of the DPR RI Library as an information and reference center that supports legislative activities. In addition to learning about library services, students were also introduced to various digital collections that can be used as academic references through the DPR E-Library platform.
The discussion session was interactive and received high enthusiasm from the participants. Students actively asked questions about library services, access to digital collections, and the use of official information sources to support research. As a form of appreciation, the DPR RI Library gave souvenirs to students who actively participated in the question-and-answer session.
At the end of the activity, the DPR RI Library presented a plaque to Arief Rahman Hakim, M.Hum., lecturer of the English Literature Study Program at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, as a token of appreciation for the academic visit. The activity concluded with a building tour of the museum and library area, allowing students to gain a closer look at the collections, facilities, and services provided by the DPR RI Library.
Through this activity, the English Literature Study Program of FAH UIN Jakarta hopes that students will be further encouraged to develop a culture of literacy, make use of valid and trusted sources of information, and improve their research skills as preparation for academic and professional challenges.
