Social Environment Seminar: Reflection and Actualization of the Role of Students in Maintaining and Utilizing the Social Environment

The Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) UIN Jakarta through the Arabic Language and Literature Study Program Student Association (HMPS BSA) held a seminar entitled "Social Environment: Reflection and Actualization of the Role of Students in Maintaining and Utilizing the Social Environment" on Thursday, June 13, 2024. The event took place in Abdul Ghani Theater Room, 5th Floor, Faculty of Adab and Humanities.

The seminar presented Addien Fikriansyah, Founder of GoMuDa Indonesia, as the main speaker. Golongan Pemuda (GoMuda) Indonesia is a forum for developing knowledge and creativity of youth to encourage concern for environmental and social issues, as well as being involved in realizing future leaders who have an ecological and social justice perspective. In his presentation, Addien Fikriansyah emphasized that it is important for everyone to be aware of the environmental problems that exist around them. Things that can be done as a form of our concern for the environment include reducing waste products as much as possible and starting to manage them ourselves, such as food waste, household waste, and others. Furthermore, it is also important for us to voice issues related to the environment on social media, considering that the distribution can be very wide so that many people will know about this environmental issue. In addition to emphasizing the previous points, the speaker also emphasized to pay attention to the issue in Papua regarding the high rate of deforestation.

"In the past, people thought that any environmental damage that occurred would 'heal' naturally, but now the world cannot 'heal' naturally due to the actions of humans themselves." said Addien Fikriansyah in his presentation session.

The seminar was also filled with interactive discussions, where participants could ask questions and discuss directly with the speakers regarding the topics that had previously been presented. The enthusiasm of the participants could be seen from the many questions asked and the warm discussion throughout the event. One of the participants, a student of the Arabic Language and Literature study program said, "This seminar really opened our minds about how we, as students, can contribute more in protecting our social environment."

At the end of the event, Addien Fikriansyah gave some important messages to the students. "Never underestimate the small actions you take for the environment. Every small step has a big impact if done consistently and together," he concluded.

This seminar is expected to be a starting point for students to be more actively involved in efforts to maintain and utilize the social environment in a more creative and sustainable way. With this event, it is hoped that it can form a young generation that is more concerned and responsible for the surrounding environment.
