“Smart Writing” Becomes the New Key for UIN Jakarta Students to Face Thesis Challenges

South Tangerang, FAH Online News – On Tuesday, October 7 2025, the English Literature Study Program, Faculty of Adab and Humanities, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta held a seminar activity entitled “Sharpen Your Writing Skills: Smart Writing – Leveraging AI for Successful Undergraduate Thesis”. This activity took place at the Prof. Theater. Abdul Ghani, Faculty of Adab and Humanities at UIN Jakarta, and was attended enthusiastically by students and several thesis supervisors. The aim of this activity is to improve students' academic writing skills while introducing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the thesis writing process effectively, ethically and responsibly.

The event opened with remarks from the First Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ida Farida, MLIS. which was then guided by Mrs. Ida Rosida, M.Hum. as moderator. In his introduction, he emphasized the importance of scientific writing skills for final-level students as well as the relevance of using AI to support academic writing productivity and creativity. 

The main session was filled by Mira Shartika, MA from UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang as resource person. He explained various smart writing strategies by utilizing AI-based tools, such as how to conduct literature research, manage references, and optimize writing structures to comply with academic standards.

The resource person also highlighted the ethical aspects of using AI so that it does not replace the critical thinking role of students, but rather becomes a supporter in the thought process and drafting ideas. Exposure is delivered interactively with concrete examples and demonstrations of the use of several AI-based writing applications. “AI doesn't replace your brain, it amplifies your potential.” He said at the end material conclusion.

After the material session, the activity continued with a question and answer session which took place actively and enthusiastically. Participants asked various questions regarding how to utilize AI in writing a thesis, such as applications for academic paraphrasing, checking grammatical errors, and ethical limits to the use of AI in the research context. Resource persons respond to each question clearly
and provide practical guidance that students can apply in the process of compiling scientific works.

The activity closed with the submission of conclusions by the moderator who emphasized that the use of AI in academic writing must be done wisely and still uphold scientific integrity. It is hoped that this seminar can provide provisions for English Literature students in preparing quality theses and be able to adapt to the latest technological developments.
