Science Consortium Workshop: FAH UIN Jakarta Prepares 2025-2029 Curriculum Oriented to Scientific Integration and the Needs of the World of Work
South Tangerang - Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) UIN Jakarta held a Science Consortium Workshop to develop the 2025-2029 Curriculum which prioritizes the needs of graduates in the world of work and scientific integration. This workshop is the last meeting in the 2020 Curriculum evaluation series which is designed to be adapted to developments in the needs of society and the academic world. The event was attended by the Dean of FAH UIN Jakarta, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, S.Ag., SS, M.Hum., as the opening act of the event, Ramdani Miftah, M.Pd. from LPM UIN Jakarta as resource person, deputy deans, lecturers, representatives of GJM (Quality Assurance Group), alumni, and several other academic members of FAH UIN Jakarta. This workshop will take place on Monday, November 11 2024 at Syahida Inn UIN Jakarta.
In his speech, Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Jakarta, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, S.Ag., SS, M.Hum. said that this workshop is a strategic opportunity to evaluate and improve the curriculum so that it is more relevant and responsive to changing times. “We hope that graduates of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities at UIN Jakarta will not only achieve a bachelor's degree, but will also be able to compete and be absorbed in the world of work,” he said. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with various stakeholders, such as alumni, students and the Quality Assurance Group (GJM), to convey input related to the curriculum.
On this occasion, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, S.Ag., SS, M.Hum. also said that the faculty targets students to graduate within a maximum of 8 semesters. This is a priority to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the education process within FAH UIN Jakarta.
Some of the main issues in developing the new curriculum discussed in this workshop are the buildup of General Basic Courses (MKDU) in several study programs in the first semester. This results in a shortage of teaching staff in each study program in this field. Therefore, the allocation of the number of credits (Semester Credit Units) in the first and second semesters will be limited to a maximum of 20 credits so that students have a strong foundation without too heavy a burden.
Apart from that, FAH UIN Jakarta is committed to increasing the integration of Islamic knowledge and values in the curriculum. Currently, this integration is considered still lacking, making it one of the focuses of curriculum development. The faculty seeks to design courses that are not only based on theory and academic studies, but also reflect the Islamic values that are characteristic of UIN Jakarta.
In the curriculum preparation process, FAH identified a number of obstacles in various study programs, such as differences in the number of credits and less uniform course codes. It is hoped that this problem can be overcome through validation and input carried out by the UIN Jakarta Quality Assurance Institute (LPM) to ensure uniformity between study programs. Ramdani Miftah, M.Pd added that this alignment is important to make it easier for administration and academic processes to run more smoothly.
Additionally, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak said that there was a request from lecturers to have a more creative Semester Learning Plan (RPS). It is hoped that this RPS will provide space for lecturers to innovate teaching methods, so that classroom learning becomes more interactive and interesting for students.
To increase the accuracy of assessments of student achievements, UIN Jakarta will adopt a more varied gradation system, including assessments with more specific grade ranges such as A, A-, B+, B, and so on. This aims to provide a more detailed picture of students' academic achievements.
In terms of technology use, UIN Jakarta's Learning Management System (LMS) system is also a major concern. Even though this system is up to 80% ready to use, there are problems related to limited server capacity. UIN Jakarta is committed to increasing server capacity so that the system can operate more smoothly, avoid errors, and support an effective online learning process.
As part of the graduation acceleration strategy, UIN Jakarta will provide an intermediate semester program. This program allows students to repeat courses that have not yet graduated or take additional courses to increase credits. With this intermediate semester program, students are expected to be able to complete their studies in a shorter time and still meet all curriculum requirements.
Dr. Ade Abdul Hak also emphasized the importance of characterizing courses at every level, both at the university, faculty and study program levels. It is hoped that this characterizing course can provide a unique identity for UIN Jakarta while increasing the competitiveness of its graduates. “We want these courses to not only complement the curriculum, but also become a characteristic of UIN Jakarta in the world of higher education,” he added.
This Science Consortium workshop marks the first step in curriculum planning which is expected to be completed in the next 6 months. With the target of implementing a new curriculum in the 2025-2029 academic year, FAH UIN Jakarta is ready to face the challenges and changes that exist. The Dean of FAH hopes that all parties can work together to make this curriculum a success so that graduates are not only ready in the academic world but also competitive in the world of work.
Overall, this workshop is a momentum for UIN Jakarta to innovate and adapt to the needs of the times, in line with the university's vision to produce graduates who are not only academically competent but also dignified and beneficial to the wider community.
