Ramadan and Life Reorientation

South Tangerang, FAH News Online - The Mutiara Ramadhan Program (volume 2) organized by the Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta is a program that aims to provide spiritual provision for students and Muslims throughout the world. In the latest broadcast, Sunday (22/02/2026), Dr. M. Agus Suriadi, S.Pd., M.Hum. which presents an inspiring theme entitled “Ramadhan and Life Reorientation”.

Dr. Agus began his study by highlighting how the month of Ramadan drastically changes Muslim habits to be more positive. One of the real indicators he conveyed was the spirit of worship at dawn, if usually many people are still asleep, in the month of Ramadan mosques are actually filled with worshipers waiting for the morning call to prayer. He emphasized that the glory of Ramadan cannot be separated from the revelation of the Koran as a reference or template for life for all mankind to stay on the right track.

In his discussion, Dr. Agus linked the direction of human life to Abraham Maslow's hierarchical theory of needs starting from the first lowest, namely the need for food and drink, the second, the need for a sense of security, both financial and health, the third, the need for affection and belonging, then the need for appreciation, namely academic achievement and social status, and the last is the development of individual potential. However, referring to Surah At-Takwir verse 26, “Fa aina tadhabun” (Then where are you going?), he reminded that the purpose of a Muslim's life must go beyond simply fulfilling the physical needs and validation of fellow humans.

Dr. Agus emphasized that Ramadan is the right time to reconstruct or reorient life goals. The pinnacle of life is not just materialistic self-actualization, but ubudiyah (realizing the nature of ourselves as servants of Allah), makrifatullah (knowing Allah and following the line He has set in the Qur'an), and usefulness (questioning how much our existence benefits for the world with divine values).

“It's not just about who I am, but what we live in this world for,” said Dr. Agus. He invited students, workers and academics to ensure that every achievement, whether a bachelor's degree or written work, has a real impact on improving the world according to divine guidance.

This study closes with the hope that Muslims can realign their life plans and desires with the instructions of Al-Qur'anul Karim.
