Yogyakarta, FAH Online News – The Master’s Program in Islamic History and Culture (MSKI), Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, continues to strengthen its commitment to developing international academic networks. This commitment was realized through a study visit and exploratory discussion on the Double Degree Program at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada, on June 22, 2026.

This activity is part of MSKI’s strategic efforts to support the internationalization agenda of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, expand academic collaboration, and enhance graduates’ competitiveness at the global level.

During the academic visit, the MSKI delegation, consisting of Dr. Ida Farida, MLIS., Vice Dean I; Prof. Dr. Jajat Burhanudin, M.A., Head of the MSKI-DSPI Study Program; Dr. Mauidlotun Nisa’, M.Hum., Secretary of the MSKI-DSPI Study Program; Dr. Awalia Rahma, M.A., lecturer of MSKI-DSPI; and Elve Oktafiyani, M.Hum., Coordinator of the FAH Quality Assurance Unit, explored various practices in the implementation of the Double Degree Program developed by FIB UGM.

One of the main focuses of this study was the international collaboration between the Master’s Program in History and Archaeology at FIB UGM, Leiden University, and the International Institute for Asian Studies. The program enables students to gain learning experiences at two different institutions and obtain two academic degrees through a cross-border education scheme.

The Head of the Master’s Program in History at FIB UGM, Dr. Farabi Fakih, M.Phil., explained that the development of a Double Degree Program requires curriculum planning, student mobility, as well as strong and sustainable institutional cooperation. Also present at the meeting were Prof. Dr. Mutiah Amini, M.Hum., Head of the Undergraduate History Study Program at FIB UGM, and Dr. Widya Fitria Ningsih, Secretary of the Undergraduate History Study Program at FIB UGM.

The Head of the MSKI Study Program, Prof. Dr. Jajat Burhanudin, M.A., stated that this study is an important step in formulating an international cooperation model relevant to the development of Islamic history and civilization studies. According to him, the Double Degree Program not only provides students with opportunities to gain global academic experience, but also opens space for the exchange of perspectives, strengthening research capacity, and fostering cross-cultural collaboration, which are increasingly needed in contemporary Islamic studies.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ida Farida, MLIS., emphasized that FIB UGM’s experience in developing the Double Degree Program demonstrates the importance of well-structured international partnerships. Curriculum integration, student mobility, and collaboration in research and scholarly publications are important instruments in improving the quality of higher education while strengthening the international reputation of Indonesian universities.

Through this study visit, MSKI hopes to initiate similar collaborations with various overseas universities that focus on history, Islamic civilization, and area studies. This initiative is in line with the internationalization agenda of higher education, the strengthening of global academic networks, and MSKI’s vision to produce graduates who are excellent, adaptive, and capable of contributing to the development of Islamic history and civilization studies at the international level.

The Double Degree Program study visit at FIB UGM serves as an important momentum for MSKI FAH UIN Jakarta to formulate strategic steps toward the development of internationally standardized academic programs, while also strengthening the study program’s position as a globally competitive center for Islamic history and civilization studies.
