MSKI Academic Orientation Period: Starting an Academic Culture with Integrity
South Tangerang, FAH News Online - The Master of Islamic History and Culture (MSKI) Study Program holds the orientation of prospective new students for the Even Class of 2024/2025. This event aims to introduce the MSKI study program to prospective students, as well as provide an understanding of the courses and lecture procedures at the study program.
This orientation will last for two days, namely on Monday, March 3 and Tuesday, March 4 2025, and will be carried out online. The agenda started at 13.00 WIB with remarks from Prof. Jajat Burhanuddin, MA, as Chair of the Master's Study Program in Islamic History and Culture. The welcome was continued by Dr. Ade Abdul Hak., M.Hum., in his speech the Dean (FAH), said, ”Welcome and join the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Syarif Hidataullah Jakarta. Hopefully this orientation event can be followed well and can provide insight in preparation for conducting research in the fields of history and humanities.”
On this occasion, the Dean also emphasized the importance of graduating on time for 2 years for MSKI students. For this reason, in this orientation program, students are expected to be able to get to know the sources of research material well to make implementation easier. Apart from that, the Dean also emphasized to prospective students and MSKI study programs that it was very important from the start of this lecture to immediately decree who would be the promoter or supervisor of these camaba. With the hope that from the start they will be able to consult proposals for research on scientific work materials.
At the next session regarding the MSKI curriculum and the stages of completing the study, Dr. Mauidlotun Nisa', M.Hum., Secretary of the MSKI Study Program. In his briefing, Dr. Nisa explained the courses that students would take as well as the procedures for accessing the Academic Information System (AIS) and its functions. He also emphasized that in the first semester, students will already receive research courses and supervising lecturers, who can help them graduate on time.
Next, the second session was filled by, Dr. Awalia Rahma, MA delivered material about Academic Culture, which emphasized the importance of building a good academic culture on campus. He revealed that one of the biggest challenges for students is surviving until completing their studies. Therefore, Dr. Awalia hopes that prospective new students can survive to completion and successfully complete their studies, with the principle that "those who can enter must be able to leave." He said
Dr. Awalia also explained that to achieve this, students need to understand the existing learning system. The MSKI Study Program tries to help prospective new students understand and manage their time well. He said he focused on understanding and mastering research. There are three important things that prospective new students need to understand in order to build a successful academic culture.
First; Resources:. they must utilize existing resources, such as books in the library. Second, Time Management; managing time effectively is very important, and students must utilize tools to help manage their time. Third; Building a Support System; Students need to have friends, such as good relationships with the Head of Study Program, Secretary of Study Program and lecturers, as well as forming a supportive environment because support from the people around us is very important to help achieve success.
Dr. Awalia emphasized that the success achieved was not only the result of personal effort, but also involved many people who played a role in the process. Therefore, he reminded students to note down and appreciate the people who have helped them on their journey to success, because they have helped perfect these achievements.
In the final session, Muhammad Azwar, M.Hum., provided material with the theme "How to Search for Online Academic Resources and Avoid Plagiarism?", which provides guidance to new students on how to search for academic resources online and how to avoid plagiarism in scientific work.
He said that there is a lot of digital technology developing today. Among them are Sispace, Elicit, Litmaps, Connected Paper, etc. These AI sites can make it easier to write scientific papers and help journalists to investigate, analyze and report news or research topics more efficiently, effectively and accurately.
At the end he also said that we must be close to the library. In the sense that we must optimize the services and facilities on our campus, especially library facilities. Because libraries are one of the most important resources for students to conduct research, find accurate information, and avoid plagiarism in writing scientific works.
By holding this orientation period, it is hoped that new students can better understand lecture procedures, curriculum and academic culture in the Master of Islamic History and Culture Study Program, and be ready to face future academic challenges.
