Little Librarian Workshop at Rumah Baca Zhaffa: I Become a Librarian
South Jakarta, FAH News Online — A group of 4th semester students from the Library Science Study Program at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held a workshop titled Little Librarian with the theme “I Become a Librarian” on Saturday (28/06/2025) at Rumah Baca Zhaffa.
The program was part of the final project for the Library Management course taught by Ms. Fahma Rianti, M.Hum., and aimed to introduce children to the world of libraries and books. With the theme “I Become a Librarian” the children were introduced to libraries, the role of librarians, various types of books, and were also invited to directly practice categorizing books.
The series of activities began with opening remarks from Chantika Cinta Alfira and Nur Intan Saputri as Master of Ceremony (MC) who guided the course of activities until the end of the event. The first speech was delivered by the manager of Rumah Baca Zhaffa, Mr. Yudi Hartanto. He expressed his gratitude to the UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta students for organizing the Little Librarian program at Rumah Baca Zhaffa to help children understand and become familiar with the parts and types of books.
Next, the head of the event, Dony Septian Kurnianto, gave a speech. He expressed his gratitude to the manager of Rumah Baca Zhaffa, volunteers, committees, and participants who had attended and supported in making the event a success. He also highlighted the importance of reading houses as nurturing spaces for children.
“A reading house is not only a place to read books, but also a place to grow, a place where curiosity is honed, togetherness is built, and new ideas are given a place to develop,” he said. He hoped the children at Rumah Baca Zhaffa would not just be visitors but become active participants in building a sustainable reading culture.
Little Librarians
This workshop was attended by 16 participants who were elementary school students from grade 4 to grade 6. The materials on the role of librarians and the introduction to different types of books were presented by two students from the Library Science Study Program at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Dony Septian Kurnianto and Dzulfikri Ainulyaqin. The children showed great enthusiasm as they listened to the presentations and answered questions. The committee also gave prizes to those who bravely answered, as a form of appreciation and motivation.
After the presentation, the children participated in an ice-breaking session with the ‘Aram Sam Sam’ dance, guided by Tengku Deasandri Varizka Fery and Imelda Setia Putri. This session aimed to re-energize the children before entering the book-categorizing and shelf-arranging practice based on categories.
After the ice breaking session, the activity continued with hands-on practice of grouping books according to category and arranging them into shelves. This session was guided by Afyfatu Syakinah and Naila Nahda Adindia. The children were divided into several groups, with each group receiving a number of books and tasked with identifying the appropriate category for each one. After that, all group members came to the front to place the books into two separate boxes according to the assigned categories. Afterward, each group arranged the categorized books on the shelves.
The event concluded with the presentation of a souvenir to the manager of Rumah Baca Zhaffa, Mr. Yudi Hartanto and a group photo session with the participants, volunteers, and all committee members.
The committee hopes that through this activity, the children can learn what a librarian is and understand their responsibilities. Moreover, it is expected that they will become familiar with different types of books, understand the process of book categorization, and be able to apply the knowledge they have gained.
