FAH Online News – The Library Science Study Program of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, held a One-Day Workshop on Academic Writing: From Paragraph to Essay under the theme “Easy Writing Without AI” on Thursday, August 6, 2026. The event took place in a classroom on the first floor of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities and was attended by lecturers, administrative staff, and students of the Library Science Study Program. The workshop featured Dr. Faizuddin Harliansyah, S.Ag., S.S., M.IM., a Research Librarian at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, as the speaker, with Dr. Lolytasari, M.Hum., serving as the moderator.

The Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, S.Ag., S.S., M.Hum., opened the event by highlighting the importance of academic writing skills amid the rapid development of artificial intelligence. According to him, the academic community needs to maintain originality, critical thinking, and integrity when producing scholarly works. He expressed hope that the workshop would provide participants with practical skills to develop academic writing in a more systematic and responsible manner.

In his presentation, Dr. Faizuddin encouraged participants to understand the writing process step by step, starting from generating ideas, determining a topic, developing an outline, constructing paragraphs, and ultimately producing a coherent essay. He emphasized that the quality of writing develops through consistent practice.

“A good paragraph contains only one main idea. Well-structured paragraphs will form a strong essay,” he explained.

The discussion then focused on coherence and cohesion as essential elements for maintaining connections between sentences and paragraphs. Participants also learned how to develop ideas through examples, illustrations, definitions, comparisons, cause-and-effect relationships, and arguments supported by scholarly references.

The use of AI was also addressed during the session. Dr. Faizuddin encouraged participants to use the technology appropriately to assist with finding inspiration, developing outlines, or checking grammar.

“AI may be used as an assistant, but it should never replace our critical thinking process as writers,” he emphasized.

The workshop continued with an interactive discussion and question-and-answer session. The event concluded with the presentation of certificates to the moderator and speaker as a form of appreciation.

Through this activity, participants are expected to become more accustomed to writing, reading scholarly sources critically, and developing academic works that are clear, coherent, systematic, and academically accountable.
