JIPERS Mengabdi 2026 Volume 2 Concludes as Students Present Community Service Outcomes at 16 Partner Institutions
South Tangerang, FAH Online News — JIPERS Mengabdi 2026 Volume 2, themed “Advancing Community Libraries Through Creativity and Collaboration,” officially concluded with an online meeting held via Microsoft Teams on Saturday, September 12, 2026. The event marked the end of a community service program carried out by students of the Library Science Study Program at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta. The program took place from July 27 to August 28, 2026, across 16 partner institutions.
The closing ceremony featured online presentations of the participants’ community service outcomes. During the session, each group presented the activities it had undertaken over the course of one month, ranging from collection management and library organization to the digitization of library materials and the promotion of library services. The presentations provided students with an opportunity to share their achievements, experiences, and challenges encountered while implementing the program at their respective placement sites.
One of the presentations highlighted the work of a group assigned to the Knowledge Center and Library of Satya Negara Indonesia University (USNI). The group conducted a stocktaking exercise involving approximately 7,000 items, reorganized and weeded the collection, provided circulation services, and carried out the physical processing of donated books. Meanwhile, the group placed at the Labschool Kebayoran Library focused on digitizing students’ written works through SLiMS, cataloging new books, providing circulation services, and promoting the library through Instagram. These presentations demonstrated how library science knowledge was applied directly to meet the specific needs of each partner institution.
In her remarks, Ms. Maryam expressed her appreciation to the organizing committee, students, and supervising lecturers for their contributions throughout the program. She also expressed hope that the initiative would continue in the future with more thorough preparation.
“My only hope, once again, is that JIPERS Mengabdi can continue and become a regular program,” she said.
Appreciation was also expressed by Prof. Usep Abdul Matin, M.A. (Leiden), M.A. (Duke), Ph.D., Vice Dean III for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Cooperation at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities. He emphasized that community service not only provides students with valuable experience but also represents a tangible expression of concern for society.
“What you dedicate to others, when managed well, will eventually come back to you,” he advised.
He also encouraged participants to publish their community service outcomes on the faculty’s website so that the contributions made by each partner institution could be shared with a wider audience.
In addition to the presentations and welcoming remarks, the closing ceremony included a session in which participants shared their reflections and messages. Zhafarina Tijani Athaya, one of the JIPERS Mengabdi 2026 Volume 2 participants, explained that the program had given her new experiences in applying knowledge previously acquired in the classroom. She also expressed her happiness at being able to collaborate and meet new friends during the community service program.
Similarly, fellow participant Nayla Izzati shared that the program had provided experiences that could not be gained in the classroom, as well as the opportunity to work with a supportive team.
The conclusion of JIPERS Mengabdi 2026 Volume 2 served not only as a platform for presenting community service outcomes but also as an opportunity to exchange experiences and evaluate the program’s implementation. It is hoped that JIPERS Mengabdi will continue in the future with improved coordination and deliver sustainable benefits to students and partner institutions, particularly in library development and the enhancement of community literacy.
