Ittikaf: To Achieve Glory
Ittikaf: To Achieve Glory

South Tangerang, FAH News Online- The month of Ramadan is a month that is blessed with blessings, for example in this month there are many things we can do to achieve glory, one of which is through I'ttikaf. On Sunday (28/02/2026) the Mutiara Ramadhan Program (VOLUME 2) which was implemented by the Faculty of Adab and Humanities UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta with Mr. Mugy Nugraha, MSI as the speaker presented the theme “Achieving Glory With I'ttikaf“ filling in between waiting to break the fast in the month of Ramadan this year.

In this theme he said that Rasulullah SAW strongly recommended us to increase I'ttikaf in mosques, he explained that “the I'ttikaf Shari'a was not only prescribed for the Prophet Muhammad SAW and his people but had been prescribed for the people before the Prophet Muhammad SAW, this is told in the Qur'an which contains Allah SWT ordering the prophet Ibrahim and the prophet Ismail to clean their houses/The Kaaba for people who are tawwaf, perform I'ttikaf and pray from this verse can be concluded that I'ttikaf has been prescribed to previous communities, in another verse it is explained that technically it is not permissible to interfere with one's wife in performing I'ttikaf ” he said. Of these two verses, there are two things that we need to pay attention to in the first I'ttikaf, it is not permissible to interfere with the wife when performing I'ttikaf, secondly, it must be done in the mosque, which is a provision of Allah SWT that must not be violated in carrying it out.

He also explained I'ttikaf linguistically by quoting the words of Syarif Al-Jurjani, a Traditional Writer and Theologian, I'ttikaf is remaining silent and restraining oneself, while according to Al-Jurjani's terms, I'ttikaf expresses that I'ttikaf is emptying our hearts from worldly affairs and handing over to the Almighty. He emphasized that from this understanding, the wisdom of I'ttikaf was born, including keeping a servant's heart away from world affairs, with I'ttikaf a servant's heart feels calm because he keeps world affairs away from his heart and he will focus more solemnly on worshiping Allah SWT. by doing I'ttikaf, a servant is trained not to always depend on worldly affairs, in fact he learns not to be shackled to worldly affairs which we sometimes forget with the true purpose of life.

Another lesson from I'ttikaf is to practice patience and self-control and improve the quality of our worship where all our worship must be based on the principle of I'ttikaf, namely emptying ourselves of worldly affairs. The final lesson is cleansing the soul, namely the process of cleansing the soul from dirt, sin and heart disease. I'ttikaf is worship that is conditioned by wisdom and I'ttikaf as a form of spiritual practice to cleanse our hearts from excessive love for the worldly world by emptying our hearts from the busyness of the world and being patient in dhikr of Allah SWT, of course we will be ready to accept the guidance of Allah SWT.

Before ending his study he concluded “I'ttikaf is not just staying in the mosque but emptying our hearts from worldly affairs to focus for a moment on the affairs of the afterlife, even though not all of us are able to do I'ttikaf for 10 full days in the month of Ramadan, we all need to take lessons from I'ttikaf and try to maintain our desires and also try to forgive others, may Allah give us Taufik to carry out the I'ttikaf worship and achieve blessings in the month of Ramadhan” said Mr. Mugy Nugraha, MSI in ending his study.
