Improving Journal Quality, FAH UIN Jakarta Holds Journal Collaboration Workshop at Syahida Inn
FAHNEWS, Jakarta, 12-13 June 2024 The Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta successfully held a Journal Collaboration Workshop on 12-13 June 2024. This activity was held as an effort to improve the quality of scientific journal management within FAH and PTKIN in general. This workshop carries the theme "Islamic Journal Management" and was attended by all journal managers in FAH.
The event began with a report from the Chief Executive, Dr. Ida Farida, MLIS. In her report, she conveyed the background and purpose of this workshop. Ida emphasized the importance of professionalism in journal management and the need to improve the competence of journal managers through training and collaboration. "We hope to provide insights and practical skills to journal managers so that they can manage journals more professionally and meet international standards. Especially, it can be indexed both nationally and internationally." said Ida, who is also the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs at FAH.
Furthermore, the Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, M.Hum., gave a speech and officially opened the workshop. In his speech, Ade highlighted the important role of scientific journals in the development of science and Islamic higher education. He also appreciated the enthusiasm of the participants and hoped that this workshop could provide great benefits in improving the quality and visibility of journals managed by FAH. "Through this workshop, I hope the participants can gain new knowledge and skills that can be applied in journal management in their respective institutions. Thus, we can ensure that the journals we manage meet high quality standards and are competitive." said the man from Karawang.
After the Dean's remarks, Dr. Saifuddin Asrori, M.Si., Chairperson of the UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Journal House, gave a briefing that emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in journal management. Ipud, as he is usually called, also underlined the need to maintain academic integrity and utilize technology to support the editorial process and journal distribution. "I really appreciate the initiative of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities in organizing this workshop. Hopefully this event can provide great benefits and encourage the improvement of journal quality within UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and PTKIN in general." Ipud said.
This workshop presented Busro, M.Ag., Head of the Journal Sentra House of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, as the main speaker. Guided by moderator Faizal Arifin, M.Hum, (Lecturer of History and Islamic Civilization Study Program), this session provided in-depth insights into various aspects of scientific journal management, including: Policies and Regulations: Explanation of national policies and regulations related to the management of scientific journals in Indonesia. Editorial Management: The ideal editorial organizational structure, duties and responsibilities of editors and reviewers, and the peer review process. Technology and Digitization: The use of the OJS (Open Journal Systems) platform for journal management, the importance of SEO (Search Engine Optimization), and data security. Publication Ethics: Publication ethics standards according to COPE, how to detect and handle plagiarism. Journal Internationalization: Strategies to increase journal visibility and reputation at the international level. Marketing and Distribution: Journal marketing techniques through social media and the importance of abstracting and indexing.
Busro emphasized that managing scientific journals at PTKIN requires commitment and cooperation from all relevant parties, from authors, editors, reviewers, to institutions. He also emphasized that by following best practices and utilizing technology, journals in PTKIN can improve their quality and reputation both at the national and international levels.
Each session ended with an interactive discussion and Q&A session. Participants were very enthusiastic in asking questions and sharing their experiences in managing journals. The speakers and moderators provided comprehensive responses, providing solutions to the various challenges faced by journal managers.
The workshop ended with the reading of conclusions and recommendations from the results of the two-day discussion. Dr. Ida Farida closed the event by thanking all speakers, participants, and committees who had contributed to the success of this event. She hopes that the knowledge gained during the workshop can be applied and bring significant improvements in the management of scientific journals at FAH.
The Journal Collaboration Workshop organized by the Faculty of Adab and Humanities of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta ran smoothly and successfully and provided many benefits for journal managers. With this workshop, it is hoped that journals in the FAH environment can be of higher quality and able to compete in the national and international arena.
