Hybrid Seminar: "AI-Powered Bibliographic Databases: Navigating the Universe of Scientific Information with AI"
Theater FAH - FAH News Online – Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held a hybrid seminar with the theme “AI-Powered Bibliographic Databases: Navigating the Universe of Scientific Information with AI” on Wednesday, October 30 2024. This seminar took place in the FAH theater room on the 5th floor and was attended by hundreds of participants, both UIN Jakarta and UIN Malang students and general participants who took part online.
The event began with remarks from the Dean of FAH UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, who emphasized the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to help speed up the process of tracing credible and relevant scientific information. The Dean of FAH emphasized that in an era dominated by big data, the use of AI can help libraries and academics provide more efficient access to scientific information.
This seminar presented two expert resource persons, Dr. Faizuddi Harliansyah, S.Ag., SS, MIM, UIN librarian Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, and Al Muhdil Karim, M.Hum, lecturer at the UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Library Science Study Program. The event was hosted by moderator Nurul Hayati, M.Hum, who is also an experienced lecturer in the field of information and libraries.
Dr. Faizuddi Harliansyah discusses in detail the role of AI in bibliographic database optimization, where this technology can not only organize data systematically, but also recommend articles, journals and academic sources according to user interests and needs. According to him, AI can increase the relevance of information and reduce data search time which is often a challenge for researchers.
Al Muhdil Karim, M.Hum delivered insights into various challenges of using AI in a library context, including data security issues, information validation, and librarian skills in utilizing this advanced technology. He emphasized that libraries need to adapt in order to keep up with technological developments, as well as hone the skills of librarians to understand AI-based systems.
The participants looked very enthusiastic, especially during the question and answer session. Some students raised questions about the impact of AI on reducing jobs in the library sector. The interviewee responded that while AI automates certain tasks, this technology actually opens up opportunities for the development of the librarian profession, especially in data analysis and more complex information management.
