HMPS SPI Organizes a Visit to the DPR RI Museum and Plenary Hall I
South Tangerang, FAH Online News — The Student Association of the Islamic History and Civilization Study Program (HMPS SPI) organized a visit to the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Museum on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. The visit took place at the DPR RI Museum Building and Plenary Hall I and was attended by 50 students from the Islamic History and Civilization Study Program.
The visit is an annual activity organized by HMPS SPI through its Jelajah Kawasan (Exploring the Area) work program. It aims to provide educational experiences and introduce new approaches to understanding history, particularly in the context of democracy and the parliamentary system in Indonesia.
Deandra Muhammad Syafi’i, Head of the Research and Development Department of HMPS SPI, explained that the Jelajah Kawasan program seeks to complement classroom learning with field-based activities, enabling students to gain a deeper understanding of historical studies through direct observation and experience.
“Jelajah Kawasan aims to give participants the opportunity to learn directly in the field rather than solely in the classroom. Participants can see, observe, and experience firsthand the subjects they study, such as state institutions, historical collections, and social and cultural environments. In addition, this activity can strengthen solidarity among SPI students,” he said.
Deandra further explained that the DPR RI Museum and Plenary Hall I were selected to introduce SPI students to the historical roots of democratic institutions and the constitutional system in Indonesia.
“The DPR RI Museum was chosen because it preserves historical sources and information about the establishment of democratic institutions in Indonesia. In addition, the museum introduces visitors to the constitutional system, as well as the legislative, budgeting, and oversight functions of Indonesia’s democratic institutions,” he added.
The activity began with a guided tour of Plenary Hall I. Students received a brief explanation of the hall’s establishment, the architect who designed it, and the reasons behind the development of the DPR RI complex. The students then continued their visit with a tour of the DPR RI Museum.
Muhammad Fauzan, a student of the Islamic History and Civilization Study Program, stated that the visit had broadened his historical knowledge, particularly regarding parliament and democracy in Indonesia.
“In my opinion, this visit has expanded my understanding of the history of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) and its role in Indonesia’s system of government,” he said.
The visit concluded with a group photo session involving all participants. Through this activity, students are expected to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the history of Indonesia’s system of government and democratic institutions.
