HMPS BSA UIN Jakarta Successfully Holds National Writing Workshop 2026, Emphasizing the Importance of Academic Literacy

Ciputat, FAH Online News – The Student Association of the Arabic Language and Literature Study Program (HMPS BSA) successfully organized the National Writing Workshop 2026 on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the Abdul Ghani Theater, 5th Floor, Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.

The event carried the theme “Weaving Ideas, Building Civilization: Writing as a Space for Creativity and Intellectuality” and was open to the public, not limited to students of the Arabic Language and Literature Study Program.

The workshop attracted 185 participants, consisting of 85 offline attendees and 100 online participants. They came from diverse backgrounds, including students of the Arabic Language and Literature Study Program, students from other study programs within the university, and members of the general public interested in writing.

The event was officially opened by the Head of the Arabic Language and Literature Study Program, Dr. Minatur Rokhim, M.A. In his remarks, he emphasized that the program is expected to serve as a strategic space for developing students’ writing skills. He also highlighted the importance of improving writing competence to support thesis writing and scientific publication, enabling students to graduate on time with strong academic quality.

In the main session, the workshop featured Irfan Abubakar, M.A. as the keynote speaker. He explained that writing skills are shaped by three key elements: disciplined practice, knowledge and references, and a writer’s distinctive “voice” or identity.

He further elaborated on five types of writing that writers should understand: creative writing, popular writing, popular-scientific writing, journalistic writing, and scientific writing. He also introduced a systematic writing practice formula consisting of reading, deconstructing texts, imitating structures, writing, revising, and discovering one’s own voice.

In addition, participants were introduced to the ATM method (Observe, Imitate, Modify) as a strategy for developing writing skills. They were also encouraged to continuously improve through reading activities, text analysis, drafting, mini research, and revision until publication.

The discussion session was active and interactive. Participants raised various questions, including how to turn abstract ideas into writing premises, strategies for overcoming writer’s block through free writing techniques, and challenges in maintaining originality in the era of artificial intelligence.

The speaker emphasized that artificial intelligence (AI) should be viewed as a supporting tool, not a replacement for human thinking and creativity.

In the closing session, a discussion on scientific writing analysis was conducted. It was emphasized that research titles must be theoretically grounded, sample selection must be methodologically justified, and all research components must be logically connected from problem formulation to conclusion.

The event, which took place from 08.00 to 13.00 WIB, ran smoothly and received positive responses from all participants. HMPS BSA is committed to continuing similar programs to enhance students’ writing capacity and expand academic literacy across various study programs.
