HIMLA Grand Opening 2025: Hold the World Through Arabic
Abdul Ghani Theater, FAH Online News, Faculty of Adab and Humanities, 10 October 2025 – Li Muhibbi al-Lughah al-‘Arabiyah Scientific Halaqah (HIMLA) held a Grand Opening with the theme “Holding the World, Diving Meaning Through Arabic” as the first step to welcome a new journey in the development of Arabic science and culture on campus. This activity was opened by MC, Rifky Afrian Setya and Siti Rabiatul Adawiyah, then closed with prayers by Dzulfaqor Daffa.
This activity aims to introduce HIMLA in more depth to new members and strengthen the scientific spirit among Arabic Language and Literature students. The Grand Opening is an important moment to unite visions and foster a spirit of love for Arabic as the language of science, culture and civilization.
A solemn but passionate atmosphere envelops every session of the event that takes place. The event opened with remarks from the Deputy Dean, Head of Study Program, Trustees and HIMLA administrators. A very important moment on HIMLA's Grand Opening agenda is the Inspirational Talkshow session delivered by Habib Ali Hasan Al-Bahar, Lc., MA, an academic and Arabic language practitioner.
“Arabic is the richest language in the world, with more than 20 million vocabulary words. In studying it, we know various branches such as ma'ani, bayan and balaghah sciences. All this is not only to understand the text, but also to understand the deep meaning behind the words.”
He also quoted an interesting story about Gus Dur which is often misunderstood because of his statements. Habib Ali emphasized that:
“People who do not understand the meaning of Gus Dur's words may not have perfect balaghah knowledge.” This statement was greeted with laughter and was also a reflection that Arabic cannot only be understood on the surface. Furthermore, he invited all participants to never feel enough in learning Arabic: “If you can, then stick with it. If possible, increase it again.”
He also emphasized that in the world of Arabic literature, creativity is very important: “Literature is not always bound by halal and haram laws, because the main thing is how we process language into poetic, touching and evocative.”
To conclude the session, he in his typical style delivered several poetic gossips in Arabic which made the talk show atmosphere warm and full of enthusiasm. His relaxed but weighty delivery style makes the material easy to digest, but still of scientific value.
After the talk show, the event continued with a symbolic inauguration procession for new HIMLA members. This moment is an initial milestone for students who have just joined to actively contribute to HIMLA activities. The inauguration was carried out by reading the pledge led by Prof. Usep Abdul Matin, MA., MA., P.hD as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities.
Through this Grand Opening activity, HIMLA hopes to be able to produce a generation that not only loves Arabic academically, but also spiritually and culturally. HIMLA is committed to being a space that always fosters scientific enthusiasm, literary creativity and a sense of togetherness in a dynamic organizational forum. Not only focusing on academic development, HIMLA is also a place to hone the potential and non-academic abilities of each member so that they grow into empowered and characterful individuals.
Holding the world and diving into meaning through Arabic is not just a theme, but an invitation to continue learning, exploring and working with HIMLA.
