FAH Online News, Bangi, Malaysia, July 22, 2026 – The Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, has once again demonstrated its commitment to strengthening international academic networks through the participation of its faculty members in the 5th Regional Seminar on Islamic Civilization (SSPI 2026), held at the National University of Malaysia (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia/UKM). Under the theme "Humanizing Technology in Islamic Civilization," the seminar served as a significant platform for academics and researchers from across Southeast Asia to exchange ideas and present research findings from the perspectives of Islamic civilization and multidisciplinary studies. This participation formed part of the 2026 International Student Mobility (ISM) program of FAH UIN Jakarta.

SSPI 2026 brought together 77 presenters, comprising academics, students, and stakeholders from various Southeast Asian countries. The seminar also featured two keynote speakers: Prof. Dr. Sahilah Abd. Mutalib and Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.

During the seminar, five lecturers from FAH UIN Jakarta presented their research on diverse topics addressing contemporary issues. Dr. Karlina Helmanita, M.A., a faculty member of the Department of Translation Studies, presented a paper entitled "Speech Act Analysis in Yartah Qalbi by Muhammad bin Hasan: A Multicultural Translation Perspective." Meanwhile, Dr. Imas Emalia, M.Hum., a lecturer in the Master's Program in Islamic History and Civilization, presented her study titled "Malaria Epidemics and Ecological Transformation in Java, 1900–1950: An Eco-Theological Analysis of the Qur'an and Its Relevance to the History of Environmental Health."

In addition, Dr. Mauidlotun Nisa', M.Hum., a lecturer in the Department of Translation Studies, presented her research entitled "Technology, Media, and Humanity: Narratives of the 2026 Lebanon–Israel Conflict in Al Mayadeen Newspaper." Representing the Department of Library and Information Science, Hikmah Irfaniah, M.Hum., presented her study titled "Students' Motivation in Archival Volunteerism: A Case Study of the Records Centre of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities." Meanwhile, Elve Oktafiyani, M.Hum., a lecturer in the Department of English Literature, presented her research entitled "Visual Historiography and the Transmission of Islamic Leadership Values: The Representation of K.H. Hasyim Asy'ari in the Film Sang Kiai (2013)."

These five research presentations reflected the broad range of scholarly expertise cultivated by FAH UIN Jakarta, spanning translation and linguistics, Islamic history and civilization, eco-theology and environmental history, media studies, library and archival science, as well as literature and visual historiography. The diversity of topics also demonstrated how the humanities contribute to understanding issues related to technology, humanity, the environment, public health, culture, and social life through multidisciplinary perspectives.

Through the active participation of its lecturers and students in international academic forums, FAH UIN Jakarta continues to reaffirm its commitment to becoming an active contributor to the advancement of knowledge at both regional and global levels. This initiative further strengthens the faculty's vision of advancing Islamic and humanities scholarship that is responsive to contemporary challenges, grounded in humanitarian values, and capable of making meaningful contributions to the future development of Islamic civilization.
