FAH UIN Jakarta Holds Workshop on Accelerating Publication of International Standard Scientific Journals

Main Courtroom, FAH News Online-Faculty of Adab and Humanities UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held an accelerated workshop on the Publication of Scientific Works entitled Writing Academic Articles for International Publication on Thursday, 10 October 2024, at the FAH Main Courtroom held in 2 sessions, this activity was moderated by Ida Rosida, M.Hum with lecturers in the English Literature Study Program. In the first session of the workshop, an international resource person from The Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), Dr. Kaja Borchgrevink. The event aims to accelerate the publication of lecturer scientific journals, especially in international journals and for second resource persons to present Dr. Alfida, S.Ag., S.IP., MLIS from the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta with the theme Strategy For Choosing a National and International Journal According to The Field of Science.

In his speech, the Dean of FAH Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, S. Ag., SS, M.Hum., CIQnR revealed that the Faculty now has a Decree (SK) regarding scientific publications, which allows students and lecturers to replace theses with scientific publications. The Dean also emphasized that the ability to write scientific articles must be transmitted to students. “We have established a thesis supervisor's decree starting in semester 5, accompanied by a scientific article writing decree as a replacement for the thesis. "With these two decrees, it is hoped that lecturers will produce more and more scientific articles from students' final assignments," he explained.

This step is expected to accelerate student graduation on time and increase academic recognition, both for students and lecturers. "Publication of scientific papers is one way to increase recognition, especially for lecturers who need publication for promotion. "About 40% of students' writings are expected to be published," added the Dean of FAH.

Meanwhile, Prof. Amelia Fauziah, Ph.D., in her speech emphasized the importance of speeding up the publication process, because the campus' reputation depends greatly on the scientific publications produced by lecturers. “A lot of knowledge has not been exposed due to lack of publication, this is the reason why publication is so important. At LP2M itself, there are many incentives that can be used to support scientific publications,” he said.

Prof. Amelia also said that “Each Faculty has a share to strengthen expertise in their respective fields, therefore, it is important for us to have writing skills according to our scientific discipline,” she added.

Then a presentation of the material was continued by the source, In his presentation, Dr. Kaja Borchgrevink of PRIO describes the international academic environment and provides practical guidance in writing academic articles for international publications. He highlighted the importance of starting articles from the basic stage to constructing main arguments, research questions, as well as developing a good article framework.

Additionally, Dr. Kaja also provides practical guidance in writing academic articles, from the initial stages to compiling abstracts and draft articles. Participants are invited to identify the main arguments, research questions, and intended audience, as well as how to determine where the article will be published.

PRIO, an international research institute focused on peace and conflict studies, also plays a role in global collaboration through the two academic journals they manage. Dr. Kaja also shares tips regarding the general structure of scientific articles which include introduction, literature review, conceptual framework, data and methods, analysis, and conclusions.

The workshop was interactive, with enthusiastic discussion and question and answer sessions between resource persons and participants. It is hoped that this activity can motivate FAH lecturers to speed up the scientific publication process and increase academic contributions on the international stage.
