FAH UIN Jakarta Becomes Center for World Academic Meetings to Discuss Digital Humanities

South Tangerang, FAH Online News – Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta successfully held an online international webinar entitled “Digital Humanities & SDGs: Innovations, Challenges, and the Future” on 4-5 September 2025. This event is a discussion forum for academics, researchers and students to thoroughly examine the role of digital humanities in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This international conference webinar was attended by more than 300 participants from various universities in Indonesia as well as international partner universities from Egypt, India and the Netherlands. Apart from that, this event also featured more than 70 paper presentations presented by students, lecturers and researchers, covering topics ranging from Arabic, the history of Islamic civilization, library science, to translation studies and English literature.

In his speech, the Chancellor of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, MA, Ph.D., warmly welcomed all participants from various countries. He emphasized that this event is not just an academic agenda, but a concrete manifestation of the university's commitment to encouraging interdisciplinary innovation and collaborative research.

"This event is not only an academic agenda. "It is part of our broadcaster commitment as the University of International Education, Interdisciplinary Innovation, and Collaborative Research," said Prof. Asep.

Furthermore, Prof. Asep revealed that this theme has been set as FAH's main focus for the 2025–2029 period, demonstrating the ambition to make the humanities more responsive, future-oriented and globally engaged. He also appreciated the hard work of all parties involved, including speakers, lecturers, researchers and committees from among the students.

  6. Myrthe deVree, Ph.D. Candidate, Research Master in International Development Studies, University of Amsterdam
  7. Dr. Alfida, S.Ag., S.IP., MLIS. Department of Library Science, UIN Jakarta, Indonesia

Meanwhile, Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, S.Ag., SS, M.Hum., CIQnR, in his speech emphasized the strategic relevance of the webinar theme. He explained that this event was a manifestation of international collaboration and was clear evidence of synergy with global institutions, especially Aligarh Muslim University in India.

"We believe that digital humanities hold great potential to respond to global challenges—not only through research, but also through collaboration that bridges cultures, disciplines, and generations," explained Dr. Ade.

He added that this event consists of two main components: the International Conference Webinar which features discussions with global experts and the Academic Competition which is aimed at students, aimed at fostering creativity and critical thinking among the younger generation.

This International Webinar is expected to be an important first step in strengthening the role of digital humanities, in line with the spirit of the SDGs to promote equality, inclusion, education and ethical innovation.
