The event was organized to commemorate various human rights violation incidents that form part of Indonesia’s historical record. The “Black September” program served as an educational and reflective space for students to gain a deeper understanding of historical events and the humanitarian values that can be learned from the nation’s journey. In addition, the event was expected to encourage students to develop a culture of discussion, strengthen historical literacy, and cultivate a critical attitude in understanding various social and humanitarian issues.

The event was attended by students from the Faculty of Adab and Humanities.

In an interview session, DEMA FAH Chairperson Muhammad Ibnu Chajar expressed his hope that the event would serve as a collective space for reflection and encourage students not to remain apathetic toward humanitarian issues and injustice in their surroundings.

“We hope that through this event, we will not merely remember the dark events that have occurred in the past, but also learn from and reflect on them together. DEMA FAH also hopes that students will not be apathetic toward humanitarian issues and injustices around us. Hopefully, this event can become a space for FAH students to engage in discussion,” he said.

The event continued with a mini-talk show featuring two speakers, Ulfi Nur Kumala, a member of Youth JPPI, and Iman Zanatul Haeri, Head of the Teacher Advocacy Division of P2G. The discussion was moderated by Khilda Aqilah Sepiani.

Meanwhile, Iman Zanatul Haeri appreciated DEMA FAH’s initiative in organizing the “Black September” event as a space for education and reflection for students. According to him, the event could contribute to broadening students’ perspectives in understanding historical records and humanitarian values. He also emphasized that academic environments play an important role in providing open and constructive spaces for discussion, enabling students to understand various events critically, objectively, and responsibly.

Ulfi expressed her hope that the event would become a space for students to reflect on various events of the past and draw relevant lessons for life in society today and in the future.

According to her, understanding history is important for building awareness and serving as a source of learning in preparing for a better future.

The event continued with a reflection session, poetry performance, and a moment of collective contemplation. Through this activity, the organizers hoped to preserve historical memory while providing a space for learning and fostering students’ critical character within the Faculty of Adab and Humanities.

Through the event, DEMA FAH hopes that students can gain a meaningful space for learning and reflection, develop greater concern for humanitarian values, and cultivate critical and open-minded attitudes when responding to various social issues in their surroundings.
