South Tangerang, FAH Online News – Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) made proud academic achievements with the addition of two new doctors from the English Literature Study Program and the Tarjamah Study Program. Both promovendus, Ahmad Hifni and M. Agus Suriadi successfully underwent a doctoral promotion exam which was held at the Postgraduate School on Friday, February 21 2025.

Ahmad Hifni: The Transformation of Sufistic Literature

The first doctoral promotion session took place at 09.00 WIB at the Prof Auditorium. Dr. Suwito, MA. Ahmad Hifni successfully defended his dissertation entitled Sufistic Literary Transformation: A Comparative Study of Islamic Esotericism in the Works of Muḥyī al-Dīn ibn ‘Arabī and Abdul Hadi WM.. This research discusses how elements of Islamic esotericism are reflected in literary works and how Sufistic approaches shape the interpretation of Islamic literature.

The examining team at this session consisted of leading academics, namely Prof. Dr. Zulkifli, MA; Prof. Dr. Sukron Kamil, MA; Prof. Dr. R. Yani'ah Wardani, M.Ag; Prof. Dr. Rd. Mulyadhi Kartanegara; Prof. Dr. Yusuf Rahman, MA; and Prof. Dr. Asep Usman Ismail, M.Ag. The trial was chaired by Dr. Maswani, MA as session secretary, with Ulpah Andayani, S.Ag, SS, M.Hum as co-legacy.

M. Agus Suriadi: Islamic Translation and Discourse

In the second session which took place at 13.30 WIB at the same place, M. Agus Suriadi succeeded in defending his dissertation entitled Islamic Translation and Discourse: Study of the Translation Results of Anas Mahyuddin in the Book Understanding Islam by Frithjof Schuon. This research highlights the role of translation in the spread of Islamic discourse and how the translation process can influence the understanding of Islamic texts.
This hearing was also attended by a team of examiners consisting of Prof. Dr. Zulkifli, MA; Prof. Dr. Sukron Kamil, MA; Prof. Dr. Ratna Sari Dewi, M.Pd; Prof. Dr. Darsita S, M. Hum; Prof. Dr. Rd. Mulyadhi Kartanegara; Prof. Kusmana, M.A, Ph.D; and Prof. Dr. Alek, M.Pd. The secretary of the trial is Dr. Maswani, MA, while the winner in this trial was Yulia Rosa Dewi, MM.

With the success of Ahmad Hifni and M. Agus Suriadi received a doctorate, FAH further strengthened its work in producing quality academics in the fields of literature and Islamic translation. It is hoped that this achievement can make a significant contribution to the development of science in Indonesia and increase academic competitiveness on the international stage.
