FAH Holds Journalism Training: Don't Be a Bad News Bearer

The journalism workshop for students with the theme of forming creative and critical young journalists in the digital era was successfully held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 in the theater room on the 5th floor of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities. The continuity of the event was marked by the opening and remarks from the Dean, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, M.Hum., CIQnR as the keynote speech of the activity. He revealed that science will provide satisfying results for anyone who tries to develop themselves. "If you are willing and want to develop yourself with knowledge, then you will get something from it," he said.

On the same occasion, coil journalist, Muhammad Zamachsyari, S.Hum., said the importance of sorting out news critically to avoid spreading false information. 

"Don't be a wicked person who brings news that is only carried away by the news circulating. It is necessary to be critical in sorting out factual news," said Zamachsyari.

Zama continued, along with the development of information and communication, the media paradigm has shifted from traditional to digital. However, trust in digital media has eroded due to the rampant hoaxes circulating. Journalists are now required to work quickly, accurately and with integrity.

Ade Faizal Alami, M.Hum., as the main speaker who has experience as a Gatra journalist, added that being a journalist is a way to capture history today. He emphasized that journalists need to understand and apply the code of ethics in presenting news. This code of ethics includes honesty, accuracy, and responsibility in reporting.

This activity did not only focus on the material, but participants were also given the experience of writing news in groups. This is done so that the feel of being a journalist is increasingly felt. The session ended with a closing statement delivered by the speaker of this journalism workshop, namely, "Good writers are born from good readers".
