FAH Continues Journal Article Writing Workshop: Using AI Ethically

ADIA Convention Center, FAH Online News — Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta continues its Journal Article Writing Assistance Workshop activities on the second day, Friday, November 7 2025. This session has the theme “Article Writing: Using AI Ethically” by presenting Dr. Muhammad Irfan, S.Si., M.Pd. from Yogyakarta State University as resource person and Lutfhiana Dwi Rakhmawati, MA as moderator.

In his presentation, Dr. Irfan at the beginning of his presentation raised the actual issue regarding the pros and cons of using artificial intelligence (AI) in writing scientific works. He emphasized that the use of AI in the academic world is something that cannot be avoided. “We have to make peace with AI, because today's students are actually more sophisticated in utilizing this technology,” he said.

Furthermore, Dr. Irfan explained that AI is only a tool, while the substance of writing still comes from the knowledge and data owned by the author. “AI is like Google Maps it can give direction, but humans can still get lost if they don't understand the context. So, humans and AI must run in balance,” he added.

Regarding publication policy, Dr. Irfan emphasized that the success of publishing scientific articles is not only measured by the journal's reputation, but also by ethical and transparent processes, such as the clarity of the peer review process and the identity of the editor.

Apart from that, the resource person also highlighted the importance of maintaining academic integrity in writing articles. He reminded that even though the similarity number on Turnitin is low, this does not mean that the writing is free of plagiarism. “Low Turnitin numbers may be due to translation, but legally they are still plagiarized. So what is important is not just the score, but the authenticity of the idea and honest writing, ” he stressed.

At the second session, the agenda was followed by the Coaching Clinic on AI which discussed in depth the use of AI in writing journal articles. The resource person explained how to use AI effectively, starting from the reference search stage, to drafting ideas, to editing manuscripts. Apart from that, ethical limitations in the use of AI are also conveyed, so that its use remains in accordance with academic rules and scientific integrity.

The question and answer session was very interactive and enthusiastic, where active participants asked various questions about best practices for using AI, the validity of AI results in scientific publications, and strategies for keeping articles up to the standards of originality and ethics of journal writing.

This second day of activities ended with a spirit of collaboration and a shared commitment to building a culture of research and publication that is superior and has integrity within the Faculty of Adab and Humanities. Through this activity, FAH continues to strive to strengthen the capacity of the academic community to face the dynamics of the academic world which are increasingly connected to technological developments.
