FAH Collaborates with LO Creatifah: Strengthening Digital Journalism Competencies Through Workshops with Professional Journalists from Kumparan and Media Indonesia
South Tangerang, FAH News Online — Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta in collaboration with LO Creatifah internal media FAH held a workshop entitled "From Fact to Narrative: Strengthening Information Literacy and Religious Moderation through Digital Humanities Journalism" on Wednesday, October 8 2025. This event, which took place at the FAH 5th Floor Theater, presented two resource persons who were FAH almunis and are now active in professional journalism. They are journalists Zamachsyari Chawarazmi, S.Hum, Palace journalists from Kumparan who are alumni of the Tarjamah FAH Study Program and Andika Prasetyo, S.Hum journalists from Media Indonesia and alumni of the FAH English Literature Study Program.
This workshop was initiated by LO Creatifah as the official FAH media team which oversees the social media team, website team and Podcast team. The Creatifah and FAH collaboration aims to improve writing skills, especially in the field of humanities-based digital journalism.
In his speech, Deputy Dean II of FAH, Dr. Siti Amsariah, M.Ag, emphasized the importance for students to "dredge" knowledge from sources who are experts in their fields. He highlighted that the current digital era requires everyone to be able to convey information throughout the world.
"It is in our hands that all information will be conveyed through writing," said Dr. Siti Amsariah. He advised that every article produced contains polite educational elements, so that it can have a positive impact on readers.
Throughout the event, Zamachsyari Chawarazmi shared his personal experiences as a journalist with a relaxed and joking speaking style. It makes the atmosphere fluid and interactive, as if it were not at a formal event. This can be seen in his honest and true quotes, such as when he highlights the challenges of the journalist profession which demands extreme flexibility.
"It's so flexible, you can work until 4 in the morning," he said, to laughter from participants. He also talked about his experience working while traveling to various cities, even abroad, which he said was one of the "pleasures" of being a journalist. "Working while traveling is something you can enjoy," he said.
Furthermore, Zamachsyari asserts that the scientific background of the humanities provides great advantages. He cited his experience covering important meetings, where his Arabic language skills were superior to artificial intelligence (AI).
"AI is still inferior to humans. "I, who have Arabic language skills, have more value," said Zamachsyari. "My news is faster and more accurate." According to him, in-depth knowledge of history, logic and language can make humanities graduates more sensitive and have a broad understanding when processing facts.
In addition to sharing his experiences, Zamachsyari also outlined important principles in digital journalism which he called "principles from the Koran". These principles include Amanah (responsibility to convey information), Tabayyun (verification of facts), and Fair and Balanced (writing news without taking sides).
He also highlighted the importance of ethics, such as not confusing facts with personal opinions and always respecting the privacy and dignity of sources. "Processing facts into news is the work of journalists," he concluded, closing the session full of insight and inspiration.
Entering the second session which started at 13.30 WIB, the journalism workshop presented a resource person from Media Indonesia, Andika Prasetyo. Before the session begins, the host reminds participants to fill out a pre-test as a benchmark for initial understanding before receiving further material.
Andika opened the discussion on the topic of journalistic rules which contained an explanation of how event data is processed into news narratives, journalistic codes of ethics and demands when carrying out tasks.
“It's not good when you're on duty to be able to complete coverage and immediately narrate the results in the minutes on the same day and are also often assigned suddenly” he said.
As an illustration, Andika tells the story of the demonstration that occurred on August 28. “At the time of the incident, there was an online motorbike taxi driver (ojol) who was run over by a truck. There were no journalists at the location at that time. However, after the information spread, journalists immediately went to the hospital to directly verify the truth of the incident,” he explained
Towards the close of the event, the MC announced five participants with the best writing from the news writing practice session. The selected works will be published through the official website of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities as a form of appreciation for the creativity and perseverance of the participants.
Not to forget, participants were also asked to fill out post-test questions as material for evaluating increasing insight after participating in the material in this journalism workshop. This post-test functions as a comparison with pre-tests that have been carried out previously, so that the committee can assess the extent of effectiveness in submitting materials and achieving the goals of the workshop activities. The results of this evaluation will serve as a basis for consideration in the future refinement of programmes of this type.
The event closed with a photo session with the interviewees, which was enthusiastically attended by all participants. The enthusiasm seen throughout the activity reflected the enthusiasm and interest of participants in the topics discussed. It is hoped that this event can have a positive impact and be a real step in supporting FAH's progress in the future.
