Faculty of Adab and Humanities Holds International Conference on Islam Nusantara
Since March 2024, the Faculty of Adab and Humanities of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta has prepared an international level event in the form of conferences and international competitions for students in both academic and non-academic fields. This activity is in collaboration with Hadari UKM Institute Malaysia, UNISSA Brunai Darussalam, UIN KHAS Jember and UNIA Prenduan Madura. This prestigious conference will be held on August 5-7, 2024 at Santika Premier Bintaro Hotel, Banten. Happy Participation and Success for FAH.
The conference was organized by the Faculty of Adab & Humanities of UIN Jakarta, to encourage scholarly discourse on Islamic cultural heritage in the archipelago. With a rich history and diverse perspectives, the conference aimed to explore the intersection between Islam, culture, and democracy in Southeast Asia.
The International Conference on Islamic Civilization III 2024 carries the theme "Islam Nusantara: Cultural Legacy for Democracy in Southeast ASIA" by presenting keynote speakers, among others: 1). Dato' Fariza Md Shan, Director of Hadrari Malaysia; 2). Dr. Hajah Mas Nooraini binti Haji Mohiddin from UNISSA Brunei Darussalam; 3). Prof. Dr. H. Hepni, Rector of UIN Jember; 4). Dr. KH. Muhtadi A. Mun'im, Rector of Al-Amien Prenduan University; 5). Prof. Amelia Fauzia, Ph.D, FAH UIN Jakarta; 6). Prof. Dr. Sudarnoto A. Hakim from FAH UIN Jakarta; 7). Prof. Zaid Ahmad, Principal Research Fellow at the Hadrari Islamic Institute, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
The keynote speakers and parallel session participants were warmly welcomed by the organizers, faculty and university leaders at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. Prof. Jajat Burhanuddin, M.A., as the Chief Executive of INSAN 2024, expressed his gratitude for the collaboration and cooperation between campuses and allied countries. The Dean of FAH, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, M.Hum., CIQnR, hopes that INSAN can be followed up with a focus on research and academic collaboration MoUs so that they synergize in the development of knowledge and democracy in Southeast Asia.
INSAN 2024 was opened by the Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D. In his speech, the Rector highlighted the uniqueness of Islam Nusantara and the importance of sharing it with the rest of the world. He emphasized that Islam is not only a guide for individual life, but also in government. Prof. Asep hoped that this conference could be a platform to share knowledge and experience in dealing with major problems such as radicalism. Islam Nusantara is expected to be academically recognized worldwide and contribute inclusively in important discussions on economy, education, and politics in Southeast Asia, he said.
The opening ceremony of INSAN 2024 was enlivened by the Nusantara Medley dance performance by LO Artefah from the Faculty of Adab and Humanities of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, which illustrates the harmonious diversity in the archipelago.
An important moment in the opening of INSAN 2024 was the signing of the MoU between UIN Jakarta and several universities including Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Al-Amien Prenduan University, UIN Jember and UNISSA Brunei Darussalam. This signing became a meeting point for the development of research on Islam Nusantara with various topics and themes. This agenda is expected to build an interconnected social network between various religious universities in the archipelago to exchange insights about Islam.
