Exploring Manuscripts and Culture: FAH Master Students Travel to ISTAC-IIUM and KLCC Twin Tower
Kuala Lumpur, 21 February 2025 - Five of FAH's Master students along with a companion from the Faculty of Adab and Humanities started the Internatiojal Student Mobility program with a scientific visit to the ISTAC-IIUM Library and KLCC Tower, Malaysia. This activity aims to broaden academic and cultural insights in the study of Islamic history and culture.
In the first session, students visited the ISTAC-IIUM Library (International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization - International Islamic University Malaysia). In this library, students were introduced to a collection of classical manuscripts which are important references in the study of Islamic history. In addition, they also observed the process of digitizing manuscripts which aims to preserve and facilitate access to Islamic intellectual heritage.
In order to improve the quality of academic research, the activity continued with the Colloquium of Thesis Research. In this session, students discussed and presented their preliminary research findings, received input from ISTAC-IIUM academics, and deepened methodologies in the study of manuscripts and Islamic history. Iin Isnaini presented about the social movement of Indonesian workers in the Netherlands, Ilma Nailu presented about cultural studies of clothing styles during the colonial period, Siti Khotijah presented about the social religion of the Abangan in Blora, Nabila Rana presented about semiotic studies on poetry by Mahmoud Darwish, and Eneng Maliha presented about the social dynamics of the fishermen's economy in Karangantu Harbor. The presence of two companions, namely the Secretary of the Master of Islamic History and Culture Study Program Dr. Mauidlotun Nisa', M.Hum and Vice Dean 1 of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities Dr. Ida Farida, MLIS, also enriched the academic discussion through a broader scientific perspective. https://www.instagram.com/p/DGVDUS8TM4t/?igsh=MW1reDFrOWZ4OWY5aw==
In the second session, the group visited Kuala Lumpur City Center (KLCC) Tower, one of Malaysia's architectural and cultural icons. This visit aimed to understand the development of history and modernity in Malaysia as part of cultural insight. Students observed how KLCC Tower represents Malaysia's national identity that combines elements of tradition and technological advancement.
The first day of the Student Mobility program provided valuable academic and cultural experiences for students. Hopefully, this activity can strengthen their insights in the study of history, Islamic culture, and its relevance in today's global developments.
