Educational Tour at Kompas Daily in the Context of PUSAKA Tour 2025

Jakarta, FAH News Online - On Monday, May 5 2025, the Center for Archival Studies (PUSAKA), Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta carried out a study visit activity entitled PUSAKA Tour 2025. This activity took place at 14.00–17.00 WIB and took place at the Kompas Daily Office, Jalan Palmerah Selatan, Central Jakarta.

This activity was opened in the Kompas Institute Room guided by a team from Kompas Daily, Bernadus Richard and Andryan Kusuma. This opening session was filled with an introduction to the history and philosophy of Kompas Daily, a national newspaper widely known by the slogan “Mandate of People's Conscience”, as well as its commitment to news based on integrity and depth of information.

Participants then took part in a presentation session from Desi Permatasari regarding the role of the Compass Information Center (PIK) or now known as Data and Information Development. One of the main highlights is the introduction of Kompas Data, which stores content from 1965 until now, including articles, photos, infographics, as well as printed and digital versions of news that have been published.

The tour continues to the PIK Preservation Room. Participants looked directly at the physical archives such as manual clippings accompanied by Arief Nurrachman. Here microfilms, microfiche and digital archives are also available which are used to preserve information.

After that, participants were guided by Clarissa Avelia to visit the Compass Tower, touring various cubicles from the compass editorial team, from the Marketing, Copywriting, IT, Finance and other teams to the Social Media Team. In this last division, participants had the opportunity to have a direct dialogue with Cecilia Gandes, as Kompas Daily Social Media Manager. In a warm and insightful session, Cecilia Gandes as Kompas Daily Social Media Manager explained the strategy and workflow of the Kompas Daily social media team, starting from content planning, managing collaboration with brands, to the importance of maintaining professionalism amidst the dynamics of digital media.

“Social media is like two sides of a currency, there are good and bad sides, depending on how we optimize it. Talking about social media is not just about viral content, but there are many other parts that support the way things work as a whole,” he said.

As a closing activity, merchandise was handed over from PUSAKA represented by PUSAKA supervisor, Hikmah Irfaniah, M.Hum. to the Kompas Daily team, as well as joint documentation sessions.

It is hoped that the 2025 PUSAKA Tour activities can broaden participants' perspectives regarding the urgency of managing archives and information in the fast-moving digital era. Through this visit, PUSAKA members and participating students had the opportunity to understand firsthand how archive management practices are carried out professionally in the mass media environment. Apart from being a means of learning, this activity is also a forum for dialogue and sharing knowledge with practitioners in the field of information and documentation.
