Discovering the History of Agarwood: UIN Jakarta Presents International Experts in FAH Webinars
South Tangerang, Online News FAH – Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) in collaboration with the Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M) Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta held an international webinar entitled “Historical Aspects of Agarwood in South East Asian Countries & The Middle East”. This activity will take place online via the Zoom Meeting on August 25 2025.
The webinar was moderated by Prof.Usep Abdul Matin, S.Ag., MA, MA, Ph.D and presented four speakers who are experts in their fields, namely Dr. Mohammad Fathi Royyani as an Ethnobotany researcher at the Spice State Foundation, Dr. Hussain Ahmed Hussain AIRefaei of Zayed University Abu Dhabi, Prof. Dr. Jajat Burhanuddin MA as head of the master's program in the field of Islamic History and Civilization at UIN Jakarta, Dr. Aryandini Novita, SS, M.Si as the sustainable environmental, maritime and cultural archaeology community relationship of the Spice State Foundation.
In his speech, the Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, M.Hum., CIQnR, said that this webinar was an important opportunity to explore various dimensions of agarwood, not only from an academic and economic perspective, but also civilization and history.
The first material was presented by Dr. Hussain Ahmed Hussain AIRefaei, who reviewed the history of agarwood from an Islamic perspective which was then followed by a discussion with Prof. Dr. Jajat Burhanuddin, MA and the students.
Next, Dr. Aryandini Novita, SS, M.Si explained the results of his research in South Sumatra, especially regarding archaeological finds related to agarwood during the Srivijaya Kingdom and the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate.
In the final session, Dr. Mohammad Fathi Royyani presented collaborative research regarding the diversity of agarwood in Indonesia, covering the regions of Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Papua, as well as differences in its use by various tribes.
The event then closed with a documentation session. This international webinar went smoothly and successfully, providing new insights into the history and richness of agarwood culture in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
