Data Protection in Islamic Perspective: A Study of the Qur’an on Digital Privacy
The development of technology in the digital era has brought many conveniences in various aspects of human life. However, behind this progress, major challenges have emerged, especially related to the security of personal data. The phenomenon of hacking and theft of personal data is increasingly common and often leads to criminal acts such as fraud, extortion, and identity theft. Technology that should be used to improve human welfare is often misused by irresponsible parties.
In the context of society 5.0, the use of big data is increasingly widespread and complex. Unfortunately, data that should be used for positive purposes is often used irresponsibly. One of the media that is most vulnerable to data leaks is social media. Users often unknowingly share their personal information, which can then be used by other parties for certain interests.
This phenomenon of data theft requires comprehensive protection efforts, both in terms of technology and ethics and morals. In Islam, communication has very clear rules regarding ethics in interacting, including in the digital world. Along with the rapid development of technology, the challenges in terms of data security are also increasing. Some forms of data security threats that often occur include:
- Personal Data Hacking: Many cases of personal data hacking lead to identity theft and misuse of information.
- Big Data Misuse: Data collected in large quantities is often used for business interests or even crime.
- Data Leaks on Social Media: Social media users are often unaware that the information they share can be used by other parties.
- Lack of Digital Literacy: Many individuals do not understand the importance of maintaining the privacy of their data in the digital world.
This challenge requires greater awareness and protection of personal data. The Qur'an as a complete holy book provides various guidelines for protecting personal information and data. Some solutions that can be applied based on Islamic teachings include: Increasing Information Literacy and Digital Awareness, Using Technology Wisely, Integrating the Roles of Government and Society, Maintaining Ethics in Digital Communication, Protecting Digital Communication with the Principle of Amanah
Through the implementation of some of the solutions above, it is hoped that the public can be more aware and responsible in protecting their information in the digital world. Thus, the integration of Islamic values and technological developments can create a safer, more ethical, and more responsible digital ecosystem.
