Coffee Morning with Professor FAH UIN Jakarta: Discussing Educational Innovation from Thesis to Scientific Publication.

South Tangerang, FAH News Online - Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held a "Coffee Morning" agenda which was attended by Faculty professors. The meeting, which took place on October 25 2024 in the main courtroom on the 2nd floor of FAH, aims to build relationships and discuss academic development strategies in order to support the UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta milestone towards "Golden Indonesia 2045."

In his speech, the Dean of FAH Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, M.Hum emphasized the importance of research collaboration at the global level to achieve quality scientific publications. He said that 50% of FAH students had successfully graduated on time thanks to the support of lecturer guidance, and were targeting further improvements in the coming years. The Dean also conveyed plans to open a Doctoral Program (S3) at FAH, in line with FAH's role as the oldest faculty at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. “We really need input from seniors, especially our professors at FAH,” he said.

One of the main points discussed at this meeting was the discourse on replacing theses with scientific articles indexed by Sinta or Scopus. This step is expected to improve the quality of student research and publications. As of 2025, each lecturer is required to guide at least one student in the writing of scientific articles.

This event was also filled with experience sharing sessions from the professors present, where each participant was invited to express opinions, criticism and input for the progress of the FAH.

Prof. Dr. Oman Fathurahman, M.Hum conveyed the importance of mentoring in the student research process, especially in identifying research problems and finding relevant literature. He also emphasized the importance of comfort and order in the campus environment as part of efforts to improve quality.

Prof. Dr. Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, MA reminded that UIN must consider external factors in building global partnerships. He also highlighted the problem of literacy among university students, which required special attention if the research process was to be optimal.

Prof. Jajat Burhanuddin, MA expressed his concern that replacing the thesis with scientific articles could be considered a convenience that could potentially pave the way for students with strong financial backgrounds but lacking academic abilities.

Prof. Frans Sayogie, M.Pd highlighted the increasing workload of lecturers, especially in meeting the criteria for scientific publications. He suggested intensive mentoring for students from semester 5 to be better prepared to face publication challenges.

Prof. Drs. H. Amirul Hadi, MA, Ph.D emphasizes the importance of providing greater motivation for students to complete their studies. He also highlighted the importance of ethics and discipline among students.

Prof. Dr. Darsita S., M.Hum underlined the need to increase the capacity of lecturers and students, as well as provide adequate research infrastructure. He hopes that, with strong cooperation and support, FAH UIN Jakarta can achieve superior accreditation and improve the quality of education.

At the conclusion of the discussion, Prof. Yani'ah Wardani, M.Ag conveyed the importance of adequate infrastructure support to support lecturer research and publications. He proposed that the faculty provide more training in scientific article writing techniques and the use of research databases. Prof. Yani also emphasized that academic success depends not only on individual qualities, but also on strong collaboration between lecturers and students.

It is hoped that this "Coffee Morning" meeting with Professors at FAH will be a good first step to increasing academic and research collaboration at FAH, as well as strengthening UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta's position on the national and international higher education map.
