Celebrating 75 Years of India-Indonesia Diplomatic Relations: Celebration of Culture and Volunteerism at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta
FAH Theater. FAH UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta hosted the “World Cultures Meet” event, a celebration combining Indian cultural performances, volunteerism, and international education. The event was organized by Jawaharlal Nehru Indian Cultural Centre (JNICC), International Cooperation Service Center, Faculty of Adab and Humanities, and UIN Jakarta's Social Trust Fund (STF) Charity Organization.
The event was opened with remarks from the Vice Rector for Cooperation and Institutional Affairs of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Din Wahid, M.A., Ph.D and Ram Kumar (Counsellor (Education) & Acting Director Jawaharlal Nehru Indian Cultural Centre (JNICC).
Din Wahid, M.A., Ph.D in his speech expressed his hope that cooperation between Indonesia and India in the fields of education and culture will be closer in the future. He also appreciated the role of cultural diplomacy carried out by the Indian Embassy through this event, UIN Jakarta is grateful for the establishment of this cooperation, because it is the duty of the embassy to spread goodness to many people, “he said and warmly welcomed the presence of the Indian Embassy and international volunteers.
While Ram Kumar (Counsellor (Education) & Acting Director Jawaharlal Nehru Indian Cultural Centre (JNICC)) emphasized the importance of diplomatic relations that have been established for 75 years between India and Indonesia. He also highlighted the scholarship opportunities available in India for Indonesian students, many scholarship opportunities in India ranging from short-term scholarships per month to long-term annual scholarships, these scholarships are open to all Indonesians, ranging from undergraduate, master and doctoral degrees.
One of the highlights of the event was the mesmerizing Odissi dance performance by Sriradha Paul from India. Sriradha, who has performed in countries such as the US, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Bhutan and China, showed the beauty and grace of her signature Indian classical dance
Prof. Amirul Hadi, a respected academic in cultural studies, gave an insightful cultural speech. He outlined the long history of trade and cultural relations between India and Indonesia that dates back to the 4th century. Prof. Hadi highlighted how Indian influences have blended into various aspects of Indonesian life, from language, literature, art, religion, to social structures.
Participants also had the opportunity to listen to sharing sessions from international volunteers, including Niall Robson, Harry Thorpe, and Dima Al-Bayati from the UK. They shared their experiences and inspiration about the importance of volunteering in building a better community.
The event concluded with a group photo session and a “Taste of India” opportunity, where participants could enjoy samples of Indian food provided by the Embassy of India in Jakarta.
The “World Cultures Meet” not only strengthened the cultural ties between India and Indonesia, but also affirmed both countries' commitment to education and volunteerism.
