Campus and Museum Synergy: FAH UIN Jakarta and Jakarta Maritime Museum Collaborate

Jakarta, FAH Online News – Faculty of Adan and Humanities (FAH) UIN Syraif Hidayatullah Jakarta has officially collaborated with the Jakarta Maritime Museum in the fields of Medeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM), Field Work Practice (PKL) and Mangang. The signing of this collaboration was carried out directly at the Jakarta Maritime Museum in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, Tuesday (7/11/2025), marking FAH's concrete steps in strengthening academic contributions in the field of historical and cultural preservation.

This collaboration is the first step for the Faculty of Adab and Humanities to expand its network with various institutions, establish good relationships, and improve the quality of students through developing soft skills and increasing insight. Through this activity, students are expected to be able to practice the theory obtained in college and apply it in the field, so that their knowledge, skills and experience can continue to develop.

This collaboration includes a number of strategic activities, the MBKM program, street vendor activities and student internships, as well as the development of public education and cultural research activities. Apart from that, FAH UIN Jakarta is also committed to supporting experience-based learning programs (experiential learning) through field activities at museums, in order to increase student competency in the fields of history, culture, information literacy, as well as archives and documentation management.

This visit was warmly welcomed by the Management of the Jakarta Maritime Museum, Mas'ari, M.Hum., along with two museum management staff. Meanwhile, from the FAH side, the group numbered nine people led by Dean Deputy Dean I Dr. Ida Farida, MLIS., and Deputy Dean II Siti Amsyariah, M.Ag., and were attended by study program chairs, Quality Assurance Group, lecturers and education staff.

Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Jakarta, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, S.Ag., M.Hum., expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the warm welcome from the Jakarta Maritime Museum. He emphasized that this collaboration is a real form of synergy between the academic world and museum management institutions in creating human resources who are competent, have field experience, and are able to develop knowledge applicatively.

The dean also highlighted that students also have the ability to manage and identify information appropriately. In particular, he emphasized the importance of skills in managing museum collections and objects, including the grouping, data collection and cataloging processes, especially for students of the Library Science Study Program.

“This MoU is an important step to strengthen institutional relations between FAH UIN Jakarta and the Jakarta Maritime Museum. "We hope that through this collaboration, students, especially from the History and Library Science Study Program, can use the museum as a primary data source for research as well as an experience-based learning space," he said.

Collaboration with this museum is an alternative for placing students in addition to institutions that have been working together, such as the National Library. Dr. Ade also said that FAH is ready to send students to contribute to various museum programs.

The management of the Jakarta Maritime Museum, Mas'ari, M.Hum in his speech, said that the museum is no longer a place to store historical items alone, but is a center for cross-disciplinary learning and research.

“We are very open and welcome this cooperation. The campus has knowledge and competence, while we have objects and practice spaces. Collaboration like this will provide real benefits for students to learn directly from the source,” he added

Apart from that, the Jakarta Maritime Museum also opens up international internship opportunities. This year the museum has received interns from Japan and Rotterdam, and FAH students have the opportunity to collaborate on similar programs in the coming year.

Mas'ari, H.Hum also emphasized that collaboration with universities is nothing new for them. The museum has often been involved in community service activities from various campuses. In the future, the museum is preparing a large program in the form of an exhibition with the theme ‘Haji’ Museum, which highlights the history of the Hajj journey through the sea and traces of Islamic civilization.

He hoped that this cooperation would continue to develop and have a real impact on both sides. “Hopefully this collaboration will further strengthen relationships and present many useful strategic programs, both for scientific development and improving the quality of human resources,” he concluded.

The visit, which was attended by deputy deans, study program heads, quality assurance groups, lecturers and FAH education staff, ended with a tour of the museum to see firsthand traces of maritime history in Jakarta.
