The activity, held from 09:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. WIB in the Main Meeting Room (Ruang Sidang Utama/RSU), 2nd Floor of the FAH Building, UIN Jakarta, featured Prof. Datin Dr. Roslina Othman, Research Fellow at UIN Jakarta and Deputy Dean (Postgraduate, Research, & Innovation) of the Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology, International Islamic University Malaysia, as the speaker. The event was also conducted in a hybrid format via Zoom Meeting. The activity was attended by Vice Dean for Academic Affairs Dr. Ida Farida, M.LIS, Head of the Library and Information Science Study Program Siti Maryam, S.Ag., M.Hum., as well as several faculty members.

The session was moderated by Fahma Rianti, M.Hum., a lecturer in the Library and Information Science Study Program at FAH UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The event began with remarks and an opening speech delivered by Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, S.Ag., S.S., M.Hum., Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.

In his remarks, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak expressed his appreciation for the organization of the activity, which forms part of FAH's efforts to improve the quality and competitiveness of scholarly publications produced by its academic community. He emphasized that an understanding of bibliometrics has become increasingly important amid the development of the academic publishing ecosystem, which requires researchers not only to produce scholarly works but also to understand how the impact and interconnectedness of those works can be measured.

“AI currently facilitates many of our tasks, including searching for, processing, and mapping information. However, it is equally important to ensure that the displays, information, and data we use are genuinely valid so that the results of our analyses can be academically justified,” he explained.

He further explained that various tools and platforms are now available to assist researchers in mapping scholarly publications. In addition to databases such as Scopus, researchers can utilize various other bibliometric analysis tools to examine relationships among research topics, research trends, researcher networks, and the development of particular fields of study.

He expressed hope that the coaching session would provide participants with practical knowledge in interpreting and analyzing various scholarly publication metrics, while also encouraging the development of more focused research and publication strategies.

“Through this activity, we hope that lecturers and researchers within FAH will gain a deeper understanding of academic publication metrics and use them as a basis for developing research, building collaborations, and increasing the visibility and impact of scholarly publications,” he added.

During the main session, Prof. Datin Dr. Roslina Othman discussed various aspects of bibliometrics that can be utilized to map the development and performance of scholarly publications. Bibliometrics is an analytical method that uses publication and citation data to identify patterns, trends, productivity, influence, and networks within a particular field of research.

The discussion also focused on understanding various academic indicators and metrics that can be used to evaluate publication development and identify opportunities for further research and collaboration.

The activity was conducted interactively, allowing participants to engage in discussions and raise questions concerning the application of bibliometrics in research and scholarly publishing. This approach was expected to help participants not only understand the theoretical concepts of bibliometrics but also utilize them as an instrument for designing and developing research agendas.

Through the Coaching on Bibliometrics, FAH UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta reaffirmed its commitment to continuously improving the quality of scholarly publications, strengthening the academic community's understanding of developments in publication metrics, and expanding opportunities for research collaboration at both national and international levels.

The activity also served as part of FAH UIN Jakarta's efforts to strengthen its academic network with international partner institutions, particularly the International Islamic University Malaysia, in order to promote the development of increasingly high-quality and competitive research and publications that contribute to the advancement of knowledge.
