Benchmarking FAH UIN Ar-Raniry Aceh at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta: Cooperation and Educational Innovation

The Faculty of Adab and Humanities of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta received a benchmarking visit from the Faculty of Adab and Humanities of UIN Ar-Raniry Aceh on Wednesday, August 22, 2024. The event which took place in the main courtroom on the 2nd floor of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) UIN Jakarta was moderated by Iwan Setiawan, M.Si.

The event was opened with remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities UIN Jakarta, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, M. Hum.,CIQnR, who introduced the leadership as well as the Head of Study Program (Kaprodi) and Secretary of Study Program (Sekprodi) at FAH UIN Jakarta. Furthermore, the Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities of UIN Ar-Raniry Aceh, Mr. Syarifuddin, Ph.D also introduced the leadership of his faculty and explained some follow-up programs, such as the restoration and reservation of manuscripts by the National Library. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two faculties in future academic activities. This is due to “the challenges facing the Arabic Language and Literature (BSA) Study Program at UIN Ar-Raniry, where most of the students are local. To increase international interest, the faculty plans to develop international classes. Then the lack of a quality culture among senior lecturers and the lack of interest in the Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) program that is being run, “he said.

The discussion was then continued with a sharing session by the Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities UIN Jakarta, Mrs. Dr. Ida Farida, MLIS. She discussed the implementation of MBKM and strategies to improve the quality of education, including the development of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) based curriculum involving experts from various science consortiums. Vice Dean II, Dr. Siti Amsariah, M.Ag., added that many programs in the faculty are hampered by budget constraints. Nevertheless, the faculty continues to seek solutions, including by arranging installments of Single Tuition Fees (UKT) for students. He also highlighted the campus initiative to realize Green Campus by reducing the use of plastic and improving campus facilities. Vice Dean III, Prof. Usep Abdul Matin, underlined the importance of timely graduation and flexibility in the implementation of MBKM and PKL. He also revealed plans to hold an Arabic Language Day event on December 18, which will involve students in various competitions.

The discussion session continued with a discussion about on-time graduates at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities UIN Jakarta, where around 50% of students are able to complete their studies on time. In addition, the discussion also included the publication of scientific article journals as part of efforts to improve the academic quality of the faculty. Dr. Minatur Rokhim from BSA Study Program explained that the target of on-time graduation in this study program reaches 40%, with strict supervision in the proposal course in semester 7. In line with that, Mrs. Siti Maryam, M.Hum from Library Science Study Program mentioned the systematic steps applied, such as proposal seminars and supervisor decree.

The Head of the SKI Study Program, Pak Hermasnyah, highlighted the declining interest of prospective students and the challenges of implementing the OBE and MBKM curriculum. Meanwhile, Dr. Zakiya Darojat from SPI Study Program revealed futuristic curriculum strategies to attract generation Z. Prof. Darsita Suparno, M.Hum as Head of Tarjamah Study Program emphasized the importance of implementing the OBE and MBKM curriculum, with the achievement of 80 published articles. Another comment was emphasized by the Dean of FAH UIN Jakarta, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, M.Hum about the importance of lecturer commitment in supporting timely graduation, with a minimum target of two students per lecturer accompanied by a written agreement to graduate on time for students active in campus organizations, hoping to overcome their academic obstacles.

This discussion is expected to strengthen cooperation between UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and UIN Ar-Raniry Aceh, especially in the academic and research fields, and provide inspiration for the development of educational strategies in both institutions.
