South Tangerang, FAH News Online – UIN Jakarta Library Science Study Program held a Library Science Study Program Consortium, a scientific seminar with the theme “Empowering Integrated Communities with Library, Museum and Cultural Heritage Conservation Services”. This activity took place on Friday morning, at 08.00–11.00 WIB, at the Main Courtroom on the 2nd Floor of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH). The event was attended by students from various study programs as well as lecturers within FAH.
The event was opened by moderator Lili Sudria Wenny, M.Hum, lecturer in Library Science at UIN Jakarta. Next, remarks were delivered by Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, S.Ag., SS, M.Hum., CIQnR., as Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities.
In his speech, Dr. Ade highlighted the continued homework of FAH in strengthening community service. He explained that the Library Science Study Program seeks to initiate collaboration with various external institutions, one of which is the Maritime Museum, through superior programs that can provide real benefits.
“The Faculty of Adab and Humanities still has homework in strengthening community service. "Therefore, we encourage the Library Science Study Program to collaborate with various parties, one of which is the Maritime Museum, through superior programs that are useful," he said.
Furthermore, he explained that FAH is perfecting the community service map so that it is more focused and has a direct impact. Collaboration between Library Science and museums and archival institutions through research activities is expected to strengthen the academic contribution of the faculty.
Dr. Ade also advised lecturers to understand the research map that the faculty has prepared, so that student research can run more focused. He expressed the hope that cooperation with the Maritime Museum would be established and yield far-reaching benefits. His remarks closed with thanks to all the attendees, both students and lecturers.
The first material was delivered by Firman Faturahman, M.Hum, Administrator and Curator of the Maritime Museum. Raising the topic “Getting to Know Maritime Museums: Collaboration Opportunities for Libraries, Museums and Cultural Heritage Preservation”, Firman started by inviting participants to think about the first words that come to mind regarding “Madura”. He noted that none of the participants mentioned “boats”, even though Madura has at least 36 types of traditional boats.
According to Firman, this phenomenon reflects the fading collective memory of the archipelago's maritime cultural heritage. He then explained the history of the founding of the Maritime Museum in Jakarta as well as the various programs and facilities the museum has. All this information opens up opportunities for collaboration between museums and the Library Science academic community.
The second material was presented by Dr. Pungki Purnomo, MLIS, lecturer at the UIN Jakarta Arabic Language and Literature Study Program. He asserts that the discipline of Library Science has a broad scope that includes not only libraries, but also archives and museums.
Dr. Pungki explained that collaboration between Library Science and museums can provide access to broader and deeper research. This is very beneficial for lecturers and students in strengthening research and career development. According to him, Library Science graduates have competencies that are very suitable for careers in the world of museums. He closed his presentation with the conclusion that cross-partner collaboration was able to encourage the development of various student parties, lecturers and partner institutions.
After a discussion and question and answer session, the event was officially closed by the moderator. The seminar is expected to be a first step in strengthening synergies between libraries, museums and cultural preservation institutions, and promoting more sustainable community empowerment through academic and practical collaboration.
