White Shirt and Batik Fabric: FAH's Efforts to Preserve Indonesian Culture and Traditions

South Tangerang, FAH News Online - Tuesday morning at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta now looks different. Since the issuance of a circular letter dated 14 April 2025, all FAH academicians are encouraged to wear white top clothes and batik bottoms every Tuesday. This policy aims to rejuvenate the spirit of maintaining cultural values in the frame of graceful academic ethics.

From direct observation on the day of the circular, it appears that some lecturers and students have implemented this rule. The diverse batik patterns and uniform white shades create a scene that blends local wisdom and scientific spirit. Some students looked confident stepping into the classroom, making batik not just a fashion, but a statement of cultural identity.

However, this policy has not been massive among students. In an interview with one of the 6th semester students of the Islamic History and Civilisation Study Program, he revealed that the idea of wearing batik is very good for cultural preservation, but it still needs more massive information to students so that it can be implemented properly. he said.

Several observations show the active participation of teachers in supporting the circular. Their participation gives a strong signal that the spirit of preserving culture is not only instilled through teaching in the classroom, but also through real examples.

This policy is not merely a matter of fashion, but a reflection of an academic institution's commitment to instil a sense of pride in cultural heritage. But like a seed that is planted, it needs to be watered with wise communication and collective participation in order to flourish in the hearts of all its citizens.

With better communication arrangements and strengthening cultural values through academic spaces, the hope of making Tuesday a meaningful batik day is not utopian.
