MBSA Thesis Camp 2026: Encouraging Students to Complete Their Theses on Time Through Intensive Mentoring
South Tangerang, FAH Online News – The Master's Program in Arabic Language and Literature (MBSA) of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, held a preparatory meeting for the Thesis Camp 2026 program on Wednesday (June 10, 2026). This activity is part of the study program’s commitment to accelerating thesis completion and increasing the on-time graduation rate of MBSA students.
During the meeting, it was explained that Thesis Camp is designed as an academic mentoring program that provides comprehensive guidance to students, ranging from selecting research topics and preparing thesis proposals to developing effective strategies for completing research. In addition to serving as a learning platform, the program is expected to become a forum for intensive discussion and consultation between students and lecturers throughout the thesis-writing process.
The activity, attended by students of the Master’s Program in Arabic Language and Literature, featured speakers from the faculty leadership who provided guidance on the stages of thesis preparation, from identifying research topics to developing high-quality thesis proposals.
The Secretary of the Master’s Program in Arabic Language and Literature, Sholikatus Sa’diyah, M.Pd., stated that graduating on time is one of the key indicators of student success and remains a major concern of the study program. Therefore, MBSA has specifically organized Thesis Camp this year as a demonstration of its commitment to assisting students in completing their theses in a more structured and systematic manner.
“Thesis Camp is designed not only as a learning forum but also as a space for discussion, consultation, and intensive academic mentoring. Through this program, we hope that students will gain comprehensive preparation, enabling them to complete their theses with high quality while graduating on time,” she said.
Furthermore, Dr. Siti Amsariah, M.Ag., who served as a speaker in Thesis Camp 2026, emphasized that one of the greatest challenges students face in writing a thesis is identifying a relevant research problem that offers novelty. According to her, the ability to discover research topics depends greatly on a strong reading culture.
“A research problem will never emerge if a researcher is unwilling to read. Therefore, the key to identifying research problems is to read extensively from various relevant references,” she explained.
She further encouraged students to enrich their literature reviews by reading scientific journals, theoretical books, previous studies, and other academic references. Through this process, students can identify research gaps and discover research topics that are current, relevant, and academically significant.
In addition to discussions on research topics, the meeting also highlighted the importance of selecting an appropriate research corpus. For students in the field of Arabic Language and Literature, several digital platforms were recommended as sources for finding Arabic literary works, including novels that have received international recognition. After selecting a corpus, students are expected to conduct an in-depth review of previous studies to determine the position and novelty of their research.
Another aspect emphasized during the meeting was students’ ability to contextualize the literary works they study. Every novel or literary work is produced within specific social, cultural, political, and historical contexts. Therefore, understanding these contexts is essential for producing comprehensive and high-quality research.
During the thesis proposal discussion session, participants also received guidance on writing a strong research background. Students were encouraged to explain the urgency of their research topic, highlight the strengths of the selected corpus, and describe the novelty that constitutes the main contribution of their research.
Through the implementation of Thesis Camp 2026, the MBSA Study Program hopes that students will become more focused and systematic in preparing proposals and completing their theses. The program also serves as a strategic effort to foster a productive academic culture, strengthen the quality of student research, and support the goal of on-time graduation within the Faculty of Adab and Humanities at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.
