Library Science Study Program of FAH UIN Jakarta Holds Guest Lecture with the Library Science Study Program of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang

FAH Building, FAH Online News – The Library Science Study Program of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, has once again demonstrated its commitment to improving the quality of learning through the organization of a Guest Lecturer Program in collaboration with the Library Science Study Program of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. This academic activity was held online via Zoom Meeting for one week, from Wednesday, June 17, 2026, to Tuesday, June 23, 2026, featuring five lecturers from UIN Raden Fatah Palembang as speakers according to their respective areas of expertise.

This program serves as one form of academic collaboration between higher education institutions in strengthening scholarly networks, while also enriching students’ learning experiences through broader perspectives from academics outside the institution. In addition to serving as a medium for knowledge sharing, this activity is also expected to strengthen relations between Library Science study programs within State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN).

The Head of the Library Science Study Program of FAH UIN Jakarta stated that this kind of collaboration is a strategic step in supporting a learning process that is adaptive to developments in the fields of libraries, information, and archives. The presence of guest lecturers provides students with the opportunity to gain new insights, engage in direct discussions with experts, and understand best practices that are developing in various higher education institutions.

The entire series of lectures was conducted online through the Zoom Meeting platform using the same passcode, “FAHUNGGUL”, making it easier for participants to attend each session continuously without being hindered by the distance between Jakarta and Palembang. Although the activity was held virtually, students showed strong enthusiasm in every meeting. Participants actively followed the presentations and used the discussion sessions to ask various questions related to current issues in the fields of library science and archives.

The guest lecture series presented five topics arranged systematically to form a comprehensive learning flow, beginning with professional ethics and concluding with archive institution management. These materials were selected to provide a balanced understanding of theoretical foundations, developments in information technology, and practical implementation in the field of librarianship.

The first session, held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, featured Yanto, M.Hum., M.IP., who presented the topic “Professional Ethics.” In his presentation, the speaker explained the importance of integrity, responsibility, professionalism, and the librarian code of ethics as the main foundation for providing information services to the public. Students were encouraged to understand that technical competence must always be accompanied by professionalism and a strong work ethic.

Entering the second session on Thursday, June 18, 2026, Dr. Mulyadi, M.Hum., delivered a presentation on “Archival Automation Systems.” The session discussed technological developments in digital archive management, the implementation of automation systems to improve administrative efficiency, and the challenges faced by institutions in carrying out digital transformation in the field of archives.

The program continued on Friday, June 19, 2026, with two sessions held on the same day. The third session featured Misroni, S.Pd.I., M.Hum., who discussed “Information Management.” This material examined the importance of effective information management in the digital era, covering the processes of collecting, processing, storing, and disseminating accurate information as a basis for decision-making in various organizations.

Still on the same day, the fourth session was delivered by Wahidi, S.Ag., S.S., M.Pd.I., with the topic “Classification and Subject Headings.” The speaker explained the principles of library collection classification, the preparation of subject headings, and the importance of organizing information to facilitate information retrieval for library users.

As the closing session of the program, the fifth session was held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, featuring Dr. Herlina, S.Ag., S.S., M.Hum., who presented the topic “Archive Institution Management.” In her presentation, she explained professional archival institution governance, strategies for developing archival organizations, and the importance of implementing effective management in maintaining the sustainability of the nation’s collective memory through quality archive management.

The entire Guest Lecturer Program ran smoothly and interactively. Students not only received materials from the speakers but also actively participated in discussions through question-and-answer sessions that addressed various current issues in the fields of libraries, information, and archives.

Through this activity, the Library Science Study Program of FAH UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta hopes to continue strengthening academic networks, improving student competencies, and developing collaboration with the Library Science Study Program of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang in various academic activities, such as research, community service, and lecturer exchange, in order to support the advancement of library and archival science in Indonesia.
