Library Science Study Program Holds Socialization of PKL and MBKM for Class of 2023

South Tangerang, FAH News Online – The Library Science Study Program, Faculty of Adab and Humanities, held outreach regarding Field Work Practices (PKL) and the Merdeka Belajar Campus Merdeka (MBKM) program for students class of 2023. This activity, which took place online via Zoom on Thursday, December 4 2025, was attended by 103 students from the Library Science Study Program. The socialization was opened by Hikmah Irfaniah as moderator, then continued with remarks by the Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, S.Ag., SS, M.Hum., CIQnR. In his speech, he emphasized that the implementation of MBKM is a government program designed to develop and explore student potential outside the curriculum,

“The spirit of MBKM is to look for something else from the Library Science study program so that it becomes an added value for competencies outside the special courses of the Library Science study program, ” he explained.

Apart from that, the Dean also mentioned two benefits of the MBKM program from the student and faculty side, namely as an opportunity to develop one's potential and a means to contribute to society.

“On the other hand, what needs to be underlined is that the MBKM program carries the mission of UIN, especially the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, that what is done out there will be an assessment and image for the faculty. we. So don't let something good that we bring to institutions actually bring something bad and have an impact on other things. The results of activities during MBKM can also be used as material for writing research, ” concluded the Dean

The activity continued with a general presentation regarding PKL and MBKM delivered by Siti Maryam, SS, M.Hum. as Chair of the Library Science Study Program. In the explanation, street vendors and MBKM are different. The difference lies in the nature of the obligation where street vendors are mandatory because they are courses with a weight of 2 credits and MBKM is optional. Apart from that, street vendors are carried out in groups of two to four people, while MBKM is carried out individually even though in practice the work is carried out in groups. The implementation of street vendors will be carried out in January-February 2026 and MBKM will be carried out in February-June 2026, with a location search period from December 2025 to January 2026.

The next difference also lies in requirements and obligations, type of report, and assessment in street vendor and MBKM activities. He said that the striking difference lies in the conversion course where MBKM activities will be converted into seven courses in semester 6, totaling 20 credits and students who take part in MBKM do not attend lectures in class, which is the consequence of MBKM. The consequences include the influence of MBKM scores on the seven converted courses, failure to fulfill obligations resulting in all courses not passing, and students who do not pass MBKM must repeat the course the following year in regular classes because there is no repetition of MBKM.

"Don't join MBKM because you want to be free from college assignments," stressed Siti Maryam, when closing her general explanation regarding the MBKM program.

The next explanation was provided by Hikmah Irfaniah, S.Pd.I., S.IP., M.Hum. as Secretary of the Library Science Study Program regarding detailed guidelines for implementing street vendors and technical guidelines for MBKM activities. First, guidelines for implementing PKL which include requirements, place of implementation, presence of supervisors and field guides to provide direction and guidance to students during the PKL process. Next, reporting and assessment are also explained, consisting of the type of report, report format, assessment weight, and report format that students can use as a reference in implementing the PKL program. Second, technical instructions for MBKM activities which differ from the PKL program which lies in the time period, guidance process, assessment and value weight, to the systematic writing of reports.

Mrs. Hikmah also emphasized that in the requirements of the two programs, student supervisors are not related and have the status of students and this can be known through complaints submitted to the study program.

"It is not allowed that the field supervisor is a student because you are also a student and one of the supervisors' duties is to provide assessments. Then why not have a family relationship? "this is to avoid bias in judgment," stressed Mrs. Hikmah.

The socialization closed with frequently asked questions, namely regarding the availability of street vendors and MBKM places, as well as regarding approval letters that must be filled out after obtaining a place.
