Gratitude for the Blessings of Ramadan: Bringing Blessings Through Piety

South Tangerang, FAH News Online - In a reflection session on Mutiara Ramadan which was broadcast today, Monday (02/03/2026), Prof. Dr. Darsita Suparno, M.Hum conveyed an in-depth message regarding the importance of Muslims to increase piety and be grateful for the blessings of being reunited with the holy month of Ramadan. He explained that Ramadan is not just about enduring hunger and thirst, but rather a madrasa or month of spiritual education, cleansing the soul, the month when the Koran was revealed, and the momentum where the reward is multiplied by Allah SWT. Referring to Surah Al-Baqarah verse 183, he reminded that the main purpose of fasting is to give birth to pious people.

Prof. Darsita explains that semantically, gratitude includes three main features that every Muslim must carry out. The first is gratitude with the heart by fully realizing that all blessings come from Allah SWT. Second is verbal gratitude through hamdalah words, prayers, and praise to Allah. Third is gratitude for actions, namely using every blessing given to increase obedience and piety. He emphasized that by being grateful, Allah promises spacious hearts and additional blessings as stated in Surah Ibrahim verse 7, while denying blessings will only bring painful punishment.

There are at least four great blessings to be grateful for during this holy month. The discussion starts with the pleasure of the opportunity to worship because not everyone is given a long life to get to Ramadan this year. Next is the blessing of forgiveness of sins based on Bukhari Hadith number 38 and Muslim number 760 for those who fast with faith and hope for reward. Apart from that, there is the blessing of social solidarity which trains empathy for the poor through zakat and alms, as well as the blessing of closeness to the Koran through recitations and tadabbur as a real form of gratitude.

To conclude his reflection, Prof. Darsita invites the congregation to show gratitude through real behavioral changes such as maintaining timely prayers in congregation, reading more of the Koran, refraining from backbiting and lies, maintaining views, increasing prayers and istighfar, expanding alms, and improving good relations with fellow humans. He advised that Ramadan should not pass without any visible changes within you. He hopes that Muslims can become servants who are good at being grateful and make the best use of this momentum to improve their hearts and morals.
