Festive Kartini Day, Faculty of Adab UIN Jakarta's Civitas Look Graceful in Traditional Clothing
South Tangerang, FAH News Online - In commemoration of Kartini Day, the entire academic community of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta wore traditional clothes from various regions in Indonesia on Monday, April 21, 2025. This activity was held as a form of respect for the struggle of R.A. Kartini in fighting for gender equality and preserving the culture of the archipelago.
Through Instruction Number: 239/F2/HK.007/04/2025 signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, M.Hum., all elements of the faculty-from lecturers, students, to education staff-are encouraged to wear traditional clothing in full-day academic activities.
Since morning, the atmosphere of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities campus looked different. Students, lecturers, and education staff were present with enthusiasm in traditional clothing such as kebaya for women and batik clothes for men. The diversity of traditional clothes worn reflects the spirit of unity in the diversity of Indonesian culture.
Lecturer in Islamic History and Civilization at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, Faizal Arifin M.Hum., said "I appreciate the initiation of the campus / students and the active involvement of the campus public in participating, both students and lecturers and staff, in the use of kebaya and batik cultural symbols or traditional clothing in the campus environment. The atmosphere, which is usually formal, feels more Indonesian. Kartini's heroism in fighting for idealism, egalitarianism, humanity, and Islamic values, needs to be commemorated so that it continues to take root and we take inspiration to continue to play a role as fighters and activists, not just spectators. This outfit symbolizes that the struggle starts from ourselves and our daily activities so that the struggle must be rooted to the earth, even though we continue to look up and vision to the sky."
In addition to wearing traditional clothes, the students were also eager to capture this once-a-year moment with a group photo session. This activity was welcomed enthusiastically by the entire academic community and became one of the highly anticipated annual agendas.
Through this Kartini Day commemoration, the Faculty of Adab and Humanities emphasizes its commitment to caring for cultural heritage while supporting the active role of women in the academic and social world.
