FAH UIN Jakarta Library Holds Literacy Class: A Practical Guide to Using Mendeley/Zotero
South Tangerang, FAH News Online – UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Faculty of Adab and Humanities (FAH) Library is again holding an annual activity entitled Literacy Class: A Practical Guide to Using Mendeley/Zotero. This activity will take place on 23–29 September 2025, at the FAH Library and Laboratory, with two sessions every day at 09.30 and 13.30 WIB.
The event was opened by FAH Library librarians who emphasized the importance of information literacy and mastery of reference management applications for the academic community.
During the main session, material was presented by Winda Istati, S.IP, who presented the main topics regarding the use of Mendeley and Zotero reference management applications. Apart from that, other sources were also present, namely Maryulisman, S.IP (UIN Jakarta Main Library Librarian) and Dr. Lolytasari, S.Ag., M.Si (FISIP UIN Jakarta).
Some of the important points conveyed include:
- Introduction of Mendeley and Zotero as reference management software;
- Differences, advantages and disadvantages of both applications;
- How to install, create accounts and synchronize data;
- Library management through importing references from databases/journals;
- Automatic citation feature in Microsoft Word and citation style settings;
- Tips for avoiding plagiarism and utilizing additional features.
Participants' enthusiasm was visible in the discussion session, with various questions such as error solutions in Word plugins, differences in cloud storage between Mendeley and Zotero, as well as strategies for selecting citation styles according to academic needs. The interviewees provided technical answers with practical experience in the use of both applications.
This activity closed with an affirmation from the moderator that Mendeley and Zotero's mastery would greatly help students in compiling scientific work. The FAH Library is committed to continuing to hold similar literacy classes to support the academic needs of the UIN Jakarta community.
