Embracing Nusantara Traditional Attire, FAH UIN Jakarta Revives Kartini’s Spirit through Cultural Diversity
South Tangerang, FAH Online News – In commemoration of Kartini Day, all members of the academic community of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta wore traditional clothing from various regions of Indonesia on Tuesday (April 21, 2026). This activity was held as a way to emulate the spirit of struggle of Raden Ajeng Kartini in advocating for Indonesian women, as well as to foster a love for the nation’s cultural heritage.
Through Instruction Number: B-552/F2/HM.00.06/04/2026 signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, M.Hum., all members of the academic community—including lecturers, students, and administrative staff—were encouraged to wear traditional attire throughout the day’s academic activities.
Since morning, the atmosphere at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities campus appeared different. Students, lecturers, and staff attended with great enthusiasm, dressed in traditional attire such as kebaya for women and batik for men, complete with various traditional headpieces. The diversity of traditional clothing reflected the spirit of unity within Indonesia’s cultural diversity.
The Dean of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, Dr. Ade Abdul Hak, S.Ag., S.S., M.Hum., stated that the commemoration of Kartini Day is not merely ceremonial, but a reflective moment to continuously strengthen the role of women in education and culture. “The spirit of Raden Ajeng Kartini must continue to live on, especially in encouraging equal access to education and enhancing women’s contributions to the development of knowledge and culture,” he said.
One student, Lu’luatul Maryamah, expressed, “Kartini Day is an important moment to appreciate the struggle of Raden Ajeng Kartini, who opened access to education for all Indonesian women from various backgrounds. I feel proud and happy to wear traditional clothing such as kebaya and batik to campus as a form of respect for women’s emancipation, which has elevated women’s status to be equal with men.”
This moment was warmly welcomed by the entire academic community and has become one of the most anticipated annual events. In addition to wearing traditional attire, students and lecturers enthusiastically captured the moment through group photos and created new trends by showcasing traditional outfits.
Through this Kartini Day commemoration, the Faculty of Adab and Humanities reaffirms its commitment to preserving cultural heritage while supporting the active role of women in academic and social spheres.
